Full Version: bad habits?? take a look.
FCP Poker Forum > Poker Strategy Forum > General Strategy
NorthPacific
I was three tabling at Paradise last night and for the third night noticed I was having trouble with large variances. I normally play for a couple of hours and end the night up quite a lot. I have noticed that although I have still been ending the night up, I have been playing longer and not showing as much profit. I think I may be developing some bad habits. I pulled these hands from the several hundred I played last night. They’re hands that I think I may be playing wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.

Call a raise from the sb with non suited gapped connectors. I tend to play gapped connecters from the blinds and occasionally call a raise. I was multi-tabling and didn’t realize I was head up. Usually only call the raise in a multi-way pot. I think it’s a pretty big leak but the problem is it has paid off nicely several times. Is this a case of good results enforcing bad habits?

you only have five true outs as the Q icon_suit_heart.gif puts a three flush on the board. You really need about 7or8-1 on your call to be profitable

At these limits, a lot of what would be considered leaks in play at higher limits may actually not be as unprofitable. But I'll analyze these as if they were in a good 5-10 or 10-20 table, to optimize play.

I call with JQo from middle position. Too loose??

Somewhat. Depends on the % of player seeing the flop. If it's greater than 40% or so, yes, I would make this call.

Miss the flop and fold. Considered calling the small bet with two over cards, any thoughts on that play
.

No, that's a bad move. Your Q or J could beatnen by someone calling with KJ or KQ, and there's no other draws you can make.

call with small pp UTG +1. Of course it gets raised and I call. Is it too loose to call with 5’s that early?

No, I like it. You'll make more money hitting your sets (but NOT drawing for them unless there's a huge pot).

Yes, you're out of position, so if you hit a flop but not perfectly (say, 8 7 2) you're going to have a tough time responding to other players' actions, and you'll end up losing money more times than gaining it. Even calling from the button with unsuited gapped is way loose.

I'd check fold this. You're probably wasting one big bet almost every time here. Exceptions can be made for really tight tables, or if you've been playing very tightly so far.

Bad call again! Any pocket pair above 5's beats the board. Were you just praying for a split? I think the three better very likely has a pocket pair, and took this down.

In any case, if I sounded harsh I'm just trying to be helpful smile.gif Best of luck at the tables!

Playing non-suited gapped connectors is a gaping leak in your game, so stop if you want to make money.
TJ_Eckleburg
Echoing probably the rest of the forum's sentiments... calling a raise from the SB with T8o is pretty bad. Completing the small blind is a HUGE difference from calling a raise.

The general vibe I'm getting is a bit too loose pre-flop with cute little 78s type hands. These are late position only hands, because you're hardpressed to try the "raise for a free card" play if you limp UTG+1 with it. Suited connectors and semi-connectors are much better no limit hands, because you often have to show down winners in limit. I think the best advice for you is to stick to big cards and pairs.
Suited_Up
You're playing too many NL hands.... you have to adjust to limit.
