the nhl wants broadcasters and sports shows to start using the phrase "skate-off goal" when describing an overtime goal. obviously, they are trying to copy the "walk-off" phrase used in baseball.

personally, i think this is absolutely retarded. thoughts?

I agree, that is a dumb and unnecessary word.

If true, it is dumb.

If not true, still dumb.

Yup, moronic.

Yuck...why try to make a great sport more like a boring, poorly run sport?

I give my FCP vow, right here and right now, that.... If I'm in any pressbox, and hear an announcer use the phrase 'walk off goal'.... I will immediately punch him right in the sack.

OK, now I'm really rooting for frequent use of this phrase by all announcers.

And Shanahan scores a Walk-Off G... <thwack> OW!!! <thud>

Yeah, I can't wait for that broadcast.

I love Joe Bowen, but I'm a big fan of people unexpectedly getting nailed in the sack too for use of stupid phrases.

I'm really torn here.

I think it's a great idea. I really hope it catches on everywhere.

This could be one of the funniest things ever said on this Hockey board.

Walk-Off just sounds better. Skate-Off just sounds stupid. For some reason I got this in my head

Whoever scores the first OT winner this year needs to pull his jockstrap out of his pants.

I love the NHL but of the major sports here in the U.S. my list from best to worst run sports would be.

NFL
MLB
NBA
NHL

The NFL is now America's pastime and the cap gives every team a chance.

MLB has the worst financial structure but it is a very very popular sport.

I hate the NBA but it seems pretty popular and they have a major TV contract.

The NHL is my favorite and it has improved with the new structure but it still can't be mentioned with the other three until it gets on something a tad more popular than OLN. (Oh ya didn't they have like 5 games on NBC last year that rated lower than an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly?)

Oh ya Skate off is teh ghey.
ajs510
4 months later, and I still haven't heard a single announcer say "skate-off goal". Maybe the NHL realized what a stupid idea this was in the first place?

Has anyone heard this at the end of a game this season?

Don't ask me why this popped into my head while watching the Detroit-Columbus game, I have no idea.
Tailspin
now if they would only drop the 'half-boards' overkill

There are a lot of announcers (well a few) on nationally televised games up here that refer way to much to plays that develope at the half boards. This is probably what he is talking about.
Tailspin
maybe its more prevalent on the western feeds or something, but it gets ridiculous at times

Yeah, I didn't mean it like that.

I just also dislike the term.
