I am typically a no limit player. I've studied a lot of it and do very well when I'm playing. Now, I'm trying to diversify my game. Since I got $50 free at Party, I've decided to use this to work on my limit Hold'em game. I'm going to start out, of course, at 0.5/1 tables and work my way up.
How much different is limit than no limit? I know that, especially at micro limits like this, it's impossible to bluff someone. But, should I loosen up my requirements for a good starting hand? Should I tighten them? How differently will my opponents play? Any and all advice is welcome - especially for online limit games (if there's a large difference between the two). I really want to get good at this. Thank you all.
(I tried using the search feature, but all I got was the most recent topics. If you know any topics where this was asked, please direct me to them.)

He's playing on Partypoker, where I think $.50/$1 is the lowest they spread.
Stars goes as low as $.02/$.04.

Lol, thanks. Yeah, I have to add a few books to my library. Right now I'm up $10 in about an hour. I attribute that to great cards and awful players, lol.

I only started with $100 and a $30 bonus at Party Poker just a little while ago. The first book I read before starting was Winning Low Limit Hold'em by Lee Jones. Very good beginner book. Small Stakes Hold'em will be here friday.
As long as you play smart I think you can make $50 work at the .50/1 tables. I am at $180 after about 10 days, 2000 hands, and a lot of mistakes.

I hesitate to even use the S word any more, but you might look at Smash's $50 to $1000 posts.
They will tide you over until you can pick up SSHE. As a very general rule, your starting hand requirements will probably have to tighten up a little bit because you are no longer playing with the implied odds or potential of taking someone's entire stack. This means that speculative hands like small suited connectors lose value and usually only show profit in loose aggressive games.
Some people are marginally profitable low limit players and they only play "top 10" hands.
Another good bit of advice that I may have heard on this forum is:
"If you NEVER call 2 bets cold, you won't be making a very big mistake."

No, you'd need to be not unlucky too.
You're probbaly 20% to lose $50 if you start with it as your whole roll.
More if you're not playing perfectly, of course.

Well, just as an update, I'm up to $90 as of last night, so I'm in better shape. So far it's been fairly easy, though I'm sure that won't last long.
Thanks for your help guys. I'll try to pick up the books you suggested during my spring break next week.
