Hero ($257.72)
UTG ($68.65)
Button ($103)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J, K. SB posts a blind of $0.50.
2 folds, SB (poster) completes, Hero raises to $2, SB calls $2.

Flop: ($6) 3, 9, T (2 players)
SB bets $3, Hero raises to $9, SB calls $6.

Turn: ($24) 7 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $12, SB calls $12.

River: ($48) 4 (2 players)
SB bets $2, Hero...

SB's a pretty bad player. Generally gives too much action, calls a lot, etc.

I know the turn bet isn't standard but I was trying to build a pot in case I hit some of my outs, and set up a river bluff if I wanted. I think I might have some fold equity on this turn as well against some of SBs weaker hands.

Edit: Pre-flop = misclick

As played i think u need a bigger turn bet. You have a couple draws and overs but you dont want to be giving him odds to call. put out 20-psb and hope ot take it down now.

preflop yeah thats not a bet u wanna make
Scott3705
yeah, w/ a reraise on the flop, i'd be closer to just wanted to tak ethe free card for the river.

I honestly don't know how often you'r egonna fold this guy on the river. His bet is probably pretty weak and he'll fold to most raises. but then again, sometimes he just says, "**** it... i call"

checkin the turn is a line i have been discussing with some others and lets think about this:

you have 2 overs and a double gutter.

If you check the turn and miss, you can fold no big deal, king high is almost never good here. So thats +ev

If you check and hit the river what can we expect. Well donks almost always bet this river. If you look for situations like this by checking the turn against most players you almost always induce a bet from them on the river at 6max. So this too is +ev

In this situation if you thought you could fold him out on the turn then u need a bigger bet as i said earlier.

As played its much btter to check

this is also +ev with a monster agianst a player who would normally fold to a second barrel but will bet the river as you can usually get thier bet plus thier call of ur raise

Matt,

I find your post kind of vague. It seems a bit impractical to just say, "well, you can do this, and this happens, so it's +ev." Yea, if I check this turn, I obviously don't lose a 1/2 pot bet and can safely check/fold the river, but that in itself doesn't make it the best available play.

I think betting this turn has a very postive return. I can fold a lot of his hands, and when he doesn't fold the pot just gets bigger, with me in position with a good draw and decent fold equity on most rivers. That said, I think my turn bet should be bigger, probably in the 16-20 range

Scott,

This is the dillemma I was basically in at the time. It's pretty obvious that the villain is pretty weak here, but what is the value where I lose the minimum when he's calling anyway but is big enough to make him fold? Probably an impossible question to answer since bad players probably set their own standards here (i.e. "I'll call if it's only x back to me") which doesn't allow me to ever "outplay" him since I have no idea what hands he'd call or fold and to what values.

In the actual hand, I chose to raise 20, but it wasn't enough to knock villain off of J9 blush.gif

Never bluff a fish/crappy calling-station donkey.

Just doesn't work. They don't follow the same rules of poker or even common sense.

alpha...with ur bet on this turn it is almost -ev. You are wasting 12 here almost always
krup24
sometimes its best to catch bad/donkish/calling stations with big hands and no try ur over aggressive tactic here

the river is a fold for me I don't care what the odds are
