Right now I'm playing 25nl.

If I hit 20 buy ins I'm moving to 50nl for good. I will drop back down if I get to 15 buy ins. Once I hit 15 buy ins for 50nl now I'm going to start taking shots at 50nl. Just once in a while until I lose a buy in or two.

We cool?

I like to have 25+ buyins, 30+ if I'm messing around with mtts and sngs

Taking into full account the effect of downswings and variance, having 25-30 buy-ins provides a higher level of comfort for my own game. Some may say its on the conservative side, but I find this extra cushion is perfect.
gooch
I'd like to have about 50, but then I am a 6 max junkie

In order to answer this question we need to understand how bad it is to go broke.

If you're OK refunding your poker roll with your general funds, then you can work off one buy-in. If losing your banroll means that you don't have the money to eat, then you need a much larger bankroll.

That said, I find your approach reasonable. I'm less aggressive than that, but I'm a wussy.

I honestly think that's fine. Especially if you're in bankroll building mode. As long as you have the discipline to go down limits immediately after you get below a certain threshold, there's nothing wrong with it.

Is it just me, or are these two statements completely contradictory? If you're planning on dropping down when you lose 5 buy-ins, I don't think you really need the "for good" part of the statement.

Semantics aside though, I think your plan sounds solid. 20 buy-ins is plenty when you're building you're BR at low limits.

they are LOL nice catch

Isn't 15 max buyins the rule of thumb? At 25nl and 50nl it's very unlikely you'll hit a bad enough swing to damage that.

lol well i guess i meant it like this

before i get to the 20 buy ins i'm still going to play some 50nl as part of my "taking shots" plan

but once i hit that 20 it will become my permanent place of play

i played 50 nl with a 250 br...which was built up from $50..and then i kinda used proper roll management..although with 50 and 100nl I don't think it's 100% necessary....

Yeah, I always try to agree with these BR management standards when I post on here, but I don't really follow them all that closely myself. I took a bunch of money out for my new car, hit a little bit of a cold patch, and found myself playing 2/4 NLHE and PLO the other day with < 10 buyins. Well, I guess if you count my cash on hand, I still had about 15 or so, but I was definitely on the short side. Luckily, I had a +$1300 session of each game, so I'm a little more comfortable now.

Yea, i have > 50 buy ins now for $400nl, and I plan to keep it that way.

I'll be moving out of the house here within 6 months, so I want to have a years worth of bills essentially "paid" already, and still have atleast 50 buy ins left over for whatever limit I'm at. Which will be either 400 or 600nl, so at least a roll of 20k to 30k. Right now I'm at 22k, so I should be ready in 6 months for sure to be around 50-70k roll, take out whatever I need, and still have a big roll for whatever game I chose.

but at the low limits, if you are working, etc...you really dont need to grind out 25nl with a 20 buy in rule...seriously..the games are so soft there, you should be able to move thru 25/50nl in 2 weeks if you play enough.

100nl, i'm fine with stikcing to a 15-20 roll, and then when you get to 200nl start to use more br rules...especially if you are playing 6 max.

yea, i do...although i may not be returning this next quarter...idk...i may go to school abroad, but i'm not sure yet...we'll see.

i should be going into my senior year, but i dropped out already from another school for a year, so we'll see...bleh.

where you at? hit me up on aim if you want...my internet is being weird, and i'm about to go to a wedding, but hopefully i'll be on later tonight or something.

---

as a side note..br management is important to learning discipline...if you can't play "within" a bankroll...you'll probably eventually go bust when you move up to higher limits...with that being said...i still think it's silly to stick to a 25-30 rule of thumb for the 25 and 50nl games...use that at 100nl and higher if you want, but at those super low limits, i think you're just wasting time and money.

i call akron home for the summer though

I started my current br on party with 150ish dollar playin 50nl but I had played for a while at parties 50nl in the past so i was extremely comfortable with it even though I was short. I think in instances like that when your rebuilding through the lower limits you can play a bit short but if your new to the limit then stay overrolled some.

LOL funny thread

I say it matters how many tables at once you are playing....I play 8 tables therefor Id like to have close to 50 Buy ins

y0!

An important question to ask is how tough the competition is.

If you're killing the games, you need a lot less than if you're a marginal winner.

Of course if you're asking, you probably dont know yet. Which makes it difficult...

the more tables generally lowers ur variance not raises it so to have more buy ins isnt necessary. and if ur at 50 buy ins why are u still at that level?
A10WartHog2
Im just chillen dude.....Waiting till im ready to move up limits......
