I started out down a little bit as we traded jabs for a bit. Jopke was the first opponent I faced that came in for 3 times the blind on the button virtually every hand. I, of course, make it 2.5 times the blind so this was the first match I'd be playing where my opponent would be playing bigger pots in position.
At my low point I was down to about 1150. One key hand allowed me to value bet quads when the board read 10-10-5-10-A. I had 9-10 and bet 200 into a 120 pot on the river.
That got me close to even, and from there I took control. I played very cautiously using the Layne Flack system, "Who do the pushin' when the donkey will do the pullin'."
I flopped top pair a few times and WKTHSWAY bet aggressively with middle pair giving me a good size lead.
On the final hand, I finally flopped a straight and had it hold up. I made it 75 on the button with 9-7 and he called. The flop was J-10-8 and he bet 100- I called.
The turn was an 8, he bet 250, and I raised him all in for his remaining 360. He called with Qs 10s and that was that! Thieves are at 6-4 and have excellent tie breaking records with a good division/conference record.
