Not exactly the type of press AOL needs. Pretty every computer person hates AOL anyway, and now, maybe, the public will realize that they suck.

But I also have the whole McAfee package, so do I need any extra layers?

As long as you have a decent firewall you're OK.

I love how that article mentioned that the rep was no longer with the company.
I had this exact conversation a few years ago when I tired to cancel AOL.
Luckily my girlfirend at the time was a customer service rep, so I just handed her the phone and she got the guy's manager on the line and ripped him a new one.
Bu the point is, that is SOP for AOL.
So this guy got fired because he was following orders.
They're running a great operation over there...

I have dial up and can multi-table just fine.
logging on to the internet and firing up the Pokerroom server takes longer than than DSL or cable connection would.
but once I'm up and running it's fast enough.
I have a new laptop, though. I'm sure that helps...

i had a 6 month free trial with AOL that came with my new computer. I cancelled it last week, no problems what so ever. Just one quick plug to lower my price to like $4.99 or something with my highspeed connection. I said no thanks and he cancelled it. 3 - 5 minutes tops.

I still got 2 free months left out of my 6 months, but I cancelled it 2 months early just to be safe cause I have heard these horror stories. Hopefully all will be well, so far so good.

I had always wondered why when I was working with Verizon, almost every new install was wanting to use AOL for broadband...
...and now I know.
