I'm not a big basketball fan, but I'm just curious...

They are comparing this guy to Michael Jordan and I was just wondering if the comparison is legit. Is Wade really that good?

Depends on what your comparing. First finals appearance he numbers are very compareable to Jordans first finals, plus he is showing the same quality of taking over and pulling out wins in the 4th quarter.

The comparison is legit in terms of how Wade is beginning his career...of course him matching Jordan for the rest of his career is an entirely different story...but the way things look right now...Wade is pretty sick and looking pretty Jordan-esque.

this is a good assessment. what makes the comparison legit to me is that they both play the same style and exhibit similar qualities. Good mid range game, attack the basket viciously, get to the line well, finish in traffic well. they also both had a knack for taking over late. It is even harder for Wade because teams can go zone on him.

But Jordan kept evolving as a basketball player his whole career. He kept getting better and better as a shooter and a 3pt shooter...which also added years to his career. (i love Dwayne. love him. but if he goes crashing around in the paint forever he will eventually get badly hurt....law of averages. think iverson and his assorted injuries. I hope I am wrong on this. Jordan learned to pick his spots to take it to the hole and use his quickness and strength to create high percentage 12 to 15 footers where you take a little less punishment. I think Wade makes this adjustment by year 6.)

Wade probably wont match Jordan. So hard to win 6 championships and be so good for so long. Wade also needs to become a better defender to get there....he gets some steals now but isnt a lockdown guy....people can score on him 1 on 1. His help defense is superb.

Lets put it this way....he is off to a good start. And I would take him over anyone in the NBA right now. Even Lebron, even Kobe. Kobe is more talented but he is a jerk and not a team guy. Lebron hasnt done it yet so I am not going to give it to him on potential. Go dwayne, go Heat!!!!

This comparison is difficult regardless of how you compare the two. Some will want to compare Wade to Jordan in his 3rd year and others will want to compare Wade to Jordan in his first championship year, but there is one big factor that makes those comparisons impossible: Shaq. Eventhough Shaq has slowed down, he still affects the game a great deal. Jordan never had a player like Shaq on his team.

And not to criticize Wade too much but I still him making a ton of silly mistakes. He just tends to get careless and out of control at times. I also think he has a tendency to try and break down the defense by himself too much instead of passing in to Shaq first. I cant blame Wade because its so easy for him to get the basket, but Shaqs passing is so great at this point in his career that Shaq can get Wade some easy buckets right at the hoop without all the contact. I just think he has to use Shaq a little more thats all. But when it comes to game-on-the-line situations, Wade might be the best in the NBA right now.

I find him to be very poker like....he goes on tilt sometimes and will pick up two turnovers and a charge or something....he isnt perfect....but his down cycle doesnt ever last very long.
