This is not my hand but a hand i watched play out. Some of you may recognise the hand in question but anyway, im very curious as to why it played out like this.

Both players are as solid as they come. Both the players in question know their opponents inside out. Hero LAG, villan more to the TAG side.

Hero is SB with k8d. Very deep stacked. We will call it 100-100nl with stack sizes at 10000 each.

MP limps, Hero raises to 700, Villan calls.

Flp 8H, JS, 6D.

hero checks, villan bets 1000, hero calls.

Turn 6c

hero check, villan bets 2000, hero calls

At this point, there is something i will add later to this topic regarding something the villan said out loud to the table which i feel had a massive effect on what happened next.

River 2D

Hero checks, villan bets 3500, hero folds.


Now all i will say is that the hand was much higher limits than anything i have ever seen. So maybe this would explain the hand better to me, but i just dont get the check on the flop unless it was setting up a check raise opportunity. It just seemed like such donk play by the hero. With that being said, I wish i could be one hundredth as good a player as the hero has proven himself to be.

And then i dont understand calling the turn bet, then folding to the river bullet. Please some comments.

100BB is not very deepstacked. Well, it is normally deepstacked. Based on your description, I am guessing this is from High Stakes Poker, but I could be wrong. I don't remember how they were playing, but you might want to get the bet sizes more accurate so that that people analyze actual play instead of *completely* fictional play. I mean, the actual bet sizes, accurate image descriptions, and extraneous factors(like what people say) can make a big difference.

In the hand, the way you described, it seems poorly played. Raising 7xBB then checking seems scared, but it kinda depends on how Tight villain really is or appears to be. Villain is either bluffing overcards or value betting an overpair, so I agree with you that the decision should be made on the turn. As you described it, I would call on the river too, or fold on the turn.

It appears that the hero figured that the villain had an overpair and wouldn't bluff 3 barrels, but might bluff 2 barrels, hence the call on the turn. So, it appears that the hero views villain as TAG, but not too aggressive to the point of getting out of line. Although, an argument could be made that a villain would likely check a weak/made hand on the river and bet a bluff, forcing you to call more on the river.

Not sure if that helps....

PS. I would stick to analyzing hands you play or correctly capture all the nuances of a hand such as this(which is pretty difficult).

Maybe its better if ask directly about the hand in question so that people can watch it and post comment. It was a hand that played out between Daniel and Jenifer on HSP season 2 episode 1. It was a "deep stacked" game. With this information, Jenifers (heros) hole cards are now known.

I just dont get why Daniel wouldnt at least bet out on the flop. Or perhaps an even better option to check raise this flop. Wouldnt a little bit of information be gained by either of these options at that point in the hand? But to just check call flop and turn seem very strange.

In this hand as well, it seems that Daniel begged Jennifer to fire a 3 bullet when he said after the turn action the following:
"I have a sick feeling she has AA". Isnt that like saying I am so beat, the pot is yours? This comment of Daniels may explain why he played the hand like he did to a certain extent. Perhaps he had a flash that Jen has AA when she called his 5000. So maybe he was trying to catch another? Even so, it still seems weak.
