Kuge
Yeah yeah, bad beat forum is down the street...well I'm located here and dammit nothing is going my way, besides, I got something to ask. I've been trying to tweak my game to improve myself but bad beats galore. I'm pretty sure a long break is due after this hand.

Anyways, I feel as if I am playing great poker, but I am definately not winning the pots when they matter. Variance is killing me, but I do want to keep playing poker, I feel as if I can play my best and I will get good results, however with the beats I'm taking it's going to put a dent in my BR.

So yeah, I am in the poker playing mood but nothing is going right for me and I do think I need a break. I really don't know how long though, how long do you guys take breaks when variance lays the smackdown to you (good ole WWE).

stop whining, he just rivered a flush. That happens at least 3 times a day...

That answers my question...thanks

Is a (sw) even nessesary?

Oh, you're looking for an actual answer.....I take time off until I really feel like I WANT to play again....

you did get unlucky, but i would advise not moving all in there. too many hand that beat you. a5, a9, a3, 33, 99, aa.

plus you have to think since its a 3 dollar buy in that some people will call an all in there with a flush draw.

to save money, on the turn i think i would try betting 1/2-2/3 of the pot, in order to try and take it down. that way if he calls and moves in on river you can get away from it. or if he raises on the turn you could also get away. imo.

I appreciate the advice, but I think I worded my original post wrong. The hand I showed was a recent example of how things are going for me.

My main question is how long should I take a break even though I want to play poker (even though I think a break is what I need). And how long do you guys take breaks in this situation.

Sometimes bad beats make me 'poker disgusted' and i dont play more then a couple hours for 1-3 weeks. But if it's just god damn mother fucker i'm on tilt type stuff and you still want to play - you only need to take the night off and go back at it tomorrow with a positive attitude. If you can't get back in a positive frame of mind, keep taking time off until you can.

uuuh am i wrong or isn't he ahead of A3 A9? and if you know they are going to call with a flush draw that is a perfect reason to move in, they arent getting good enough pot odds and thats how u make ur money getting ur opponent to make mistakes (calling w/incorrect odds)

Unless you're on tilt, don't take any time off. You taking time off won't change the cards. They'll still do the same thing when you get back, so all you'd really be doing is prolonging it.

If you're on tilt and not thinking clearly, then take however long it takes you to clear your mind.

meh......I've had 4 or 5 of those in a session with more made hands than that, it does anger one though I must say

We should really have a stickied thread, maybe two of them

1) Variance...oh I hate thee
2) Variance...oh I love thee.
Waffles2003
Whats variance? I lose all the time...
FourFlusher
Varience is a poker players piss boy.
mosley
just buy STACKED by Daniel Negreanu and you can play for fun AND education while not risking ANY of your bankroll.
Kangaroo
bl, however id call variance a string of bad beats rather than a one off KK cracking.
Tantalar
Well pair and a flush draw was a slight favorite on the flop... But yeah it sucks to have him miss the turn and then still call a bet on the turn. With a big draw I go all in ON THE FLOP so my % isnt HALVED on the turn. Id go all in on the flop if possible because more often than not its gonna be +EV for sure!

Today I lost when I had 35off, and the flop came 55Q. Someone bet, another raised, I immediatly went all in. kid after me (With Q7) INSTANTLY goes all in, original raiser INSTANTLY goes all in, kid who re raised initially folds. They BOTH have Q7, river..... Q.... I lose! THHHATTT is a bad beat. But yeah I hear ya man. Allthough lately ive been on the "open ended straight flush draw all in against TPTK becuase fish cant fold TPTK to a check raise all in type of hand"

If busting out of a 3$ tourney is putting a dent in your BR, you probably shouldn't be playing poker.

I'm starting to wonder how many people actually read this whole thread before coming to these conclusions...sigh

All in on the flop, problem solved.

i just watch WPT episodes and stand up. stand up makes me laugh and forget how dirty the area i live in it (there is a trail/pathway through the piles of junk from the Tv/computer to the bathroom and the kitchen), and WPT makes me want to play good poker and makes me realise there is an end to the bad beat fest

I read your whole post and was just making a smartass comment to a dumb post about a guy whining about a suckout that wasn't even a suckout. Everyone has variance, everyone loses with high pp's. A pair and a flush draw is even money if not better than your over pair on the flop. Variance happens. Don't ask for advice on how to deal with Variance. Variance by definitions means you are going to go through bad streaks after good streaks. Rarely are you 100% to win a hand, and when you are you rarely get action. Now if you want to ask a real question other than how do I stop bad beats, ask and you may get an answer.
