Full Version: Interseting Situation In Sng

me and my friend split a 35$ 6 person sng. with 4 ppl left, we have roughly 2k in chips, and have a7d in SB, blinds at 25-50. button makes a min raise, he has basically same chip stack as we do. we decide to flat call, as does the BB

Flop comes a84, with 2 diamonds, giving us a pair of aces and nut flush draw. we check BB checks, and orginal raiser bets 100.

the question is now, raise or call. My friend, who was in control of the tournmanet, since it was at his house, raised to 400 and we took it down. but i still argue the correct play here is to just call.

his possible hands:

big ace, aces up. here we are behind, and can probably not push him off his hand, meaning our raise has no value. we probably have 12 live outs, but still behind.

pocket pair, assuming he doesnt have set: a raise makes him fold when we are WAY ahead, while a call signifies a flush draw, but no ace. this sets us up for a small value bet on 5th street if 2 bricks come on turn and river.

bluff: we are, again WAY ahead and giving a free card does not hurt us at all. this lets him make another stab or two at the pot.

He argued that he wanted to build a pot, and our check raise+our tight table image could get our opponent to lay down a9,a10, maybe aj/

sorry for length, but i really thought this was intriuing hand for a small stakes sng.

any comments welcome

I'm confused by the "split" concept here. You indicate your friend raised and "we" took it down. What does this mean?

i was at his house and we decided to split the buy in, but it was on his cpu and his account so he had final say...we just split buy in/payout

Oh...gotcha...he way you originally described it in the post, that wasn't what I though you were saying at all.
