Hello everyone well I'm new to this site althought I have checked it out a few times. It looks like there are alot of well knowledge players here so I thought I would find my answer here. See I've been playing poker for a few months now and read a few books. I love playing SNG's mainly the 5 dollar buyin, but lately have had a bad run. I had up intil tonight just credit to the up's and down's of the game. However tonight I realized that these seem like a lotto to me the way many players play. I sat for the first 15 min waiting for a good hand and when I got one it was pocket 10's. With the way all the other players were playing especially the player to my left who had recently pushed all in with bottom pair I decided to go all in for about 1300. The player to my right had just raised about 200 but I figured nothing and decided to risk someone having an over pair. Everyone folded til it got back to the player on my right and without even a thought he calls with K 7 suited and hits his king on the flop. This is no biggie to me except the plays I saw tonight the good calls I saw typed when they weren't and ect. So really my question is should I even try to keep playing these sort of games it just seem like a lotto. So even thought I have not been in the money for about the last ten times should I consider playing a higher buyin to get more serious play. I really want to improve my play and I'm also curious on what I should work on now that I feel I have the basic down. Sorry if I didn't give enough info I didn't want to make this to long.

A few things:

- for SNG questions, post in the tourney section.
- never think that it is a good idea to move up a limit so you can escape all the bad players.
- before we can even begin to assess whether or not you made a good raise and your opponent made a bad call, we have to know these things: reads (if possible), stack sizes, blind levels, number of opponents remaining
- lastly, for the best, unbiased feedback, don't post hand results.

Ok sorry like I said Im new to posting and thought that was the best section for it. Pretty much to sum it up it was an all in fest and I waited for a pair that I thought would hold up. Blinds were 50/100 I think and I had 1300 average stack probably around 2100 with 7 left. Thinking about it now I probably could of waited for an even better hand but it was a pocket pair and figured for a coin flip. I play these tight like only top 4 hands for the first two or three levels and then loosen up from there. Im open for any comments I want to become the best player I can. Thanks.

if you're playing $6 SnG's at party stop. the rake is killing you. move up to $10 and yes SnG's are VERY profitable. it just takes a different type of poker to beat them.
