What is the difference between Stud 8 or better and Stud Hi/Lo. Same game, different name?

The qualifier.
Stud Hi/Lo wouldn't have the 8 or better low qualifier, so you could take the low with a pair or K high or whatever.
It's almost never played.
good luck.

Smash is correct, although more and more you see Hi/Lo used to mean 8s or better.

Hilo with no qualifier.
On a lot of online sites you'll see 'Stud hilo' 'Stud 8 or better' 'Stud Hilo8' 'Stud8'-- these all refer to the same game, WITH an eight or better qualifier (if no one makes a qualifying low, the best hi hand scoops).

All the online sites have hilo WITH a qualifier.

What everybody else said.
Although Stud 8 or better and Stud Hi/Lo are now used interchangeably for the same game since Stud HiLo without the eight qualifier is a dead game.
