I hadnt paid to much attention to the Rookie of the Year award because I knew Chris Paul would win it. But when I saw how the voting went I remembered why I hate sportwriters voting for these things.
Chris Paul got 124 out of 125 votes. Now when I saw that I thought, "OK who was the dude who voted for Villanueva." Now even though Villanueva did take second, he didnt get the lone first place vote. Some jackass voted for Deron Williams. Now I like Williams, but there is no way some guy sincerely said he thought Williams was better than Paul. Hell, they even play the same position so the comparison is easy. It's not even close.
It's obvious what happened. Some writer who's either from Utah or is friends will Williams said, "Paul is gonna win it anyways. I'll give my buddy a vote. It will make him feel special." That's BS, and the writers are doing that all the time in other sports as well. Eventhough it wont happen, I wish they would never allow this guy to vote for these things again. He clearly cant handle it
Now maybe there's some unknown circumstances here and I'll be proven wrong. Maybe the guy had a ligitimate reason here, but I doubt it.

I agree with you completely, and I dont want to work myself into a fit of rage so I'll end it there. If anyone mentions Bill Conlin around me I snap

I completely agree with you, Paul was the best rookie and it wasn't even close. Williams got benched at various points during the year, so someone is a fanboy of his.
Probably some Illinois alumidiot.

Not to mention Charlie V was clearly the second best rookie. Must have been a joke vote or something.

I like that he had a good rookie year considering how bad they got ripped for drafting him with the 7th pick. I thought it was a solid pickup.

I saw this in the Houston Chronicle today. It was written by Jonathan Feigen who's the main basketball writer for the paper.

A Hitch In The Process
Chris Paul's selection as NBA Rookie of the Year was one vote short of unanimous. Utah Jazz guard Deron Williams received the other first-place vote from Ron Boone, a former Jazz player now working for the Jazz as an analyst on KJZZ.
"I thought Deron finished stronger than Chris Paul," Boone said. "After the All-Star break, I just thought Deron played better, and the Jazz certainly played better. I'm surprised I was the only one, but it doesn't change how I feel."
Coaches are not permitted to vote for their own players in the balloting for All-Star reserves or All-Defensive team. But while Boone insisted he had his reasons and might have been sincere, he mostly demonstrated how inappropriate it is to have broadcasters paid by the teams voting for players on those teams.

Chris Paul was by far the best. To even vote for some else as #1 is plain silly. I wonder if it is just a coincidence that the voter in question works for the Jazz.

I know Deron Williams finished pretty strong, but even Raymond Felton finished stronger and had a better 2nd half than Williams did. The voter is clearly delusional.

I thought Raymond Felton deserved to be 2nd in Rookie of the Year overall. He started playing well when he got the minutes to play.
