I remember seeing a special on him. My favorite part was when he said that sometimes when he went up to random people on the street and asked to do a trick for them, not everyone responded 'positively'. Then followed like five clips of people walking away from his request kinda spooked/looking at him like he was crazy.
I dunno, I thought it was funny.

I don't know what it is about him, he's just out there. Some of the stuff he did, like earlier he supposedly took out 2 teeth from some girl, then put them back. She even put her tongue in the hole where they were supposed to be.

Me too. He's either doing magic tricks that are way more advanced than anyone else, or he's an alien. Both are equal as of right now.

Did you guys see Colbert talking about Blaine the other night? He was like, "We all know magicians don't reveal their secrets, but not David Blaine," and then he quoted Blaine who said, "I have a catheter if I have to go Number 1, but I don't plan on doing anything else." Colbert then said, "See that kids? Magic."
I love that dude.

David Blaine = David Copperfield sans charisma.
And I am not saying Copperfield was drenched in charisma (Claudia Schiffer notwithstanding)
As much as his up-close "street magic" leaves me absolutely gobsmacked at times, his big stunts are a total waste. Granted, he hasn't done a stupidly theatrical "Bermuda Triangle" type thing like Copperfield (he is still doing actual stunts) but I have really tired of how much emphasis is on whatever static torture he has chosen to inflict on himself.

Nah. Besides, if he did lose a lot of money, he can just take $100 to a casino and play roulette, win 5 times in a row and leave with $3200. Like with that one clip he did with those two chicks. I'm pretty sure after he gave the women the money, he was gonna get some lovin for the night...but I guess not. Maybe he did...heck..why doesn't he just do the roulette thing for a living.
Also, the fact that he failed this stunt really does mean that he isn't some phony who will always do big stunts with such small risks. I think this guy is trying to become some sort of super human or something...his big stunts really don't have anything to do with being a magician, but it just seems to me that those stunts are for the world to see how much his body/mind can withstand in extreme situations. But you could tell he was very upset that he couldn't break the record.

The guy really amazes me sometimes with his card tricks, etc. Some of his "street magic" are obiously camera tricks, like when he puts his hand through a glass window...but all the slight of hand **** is sick.
As for his most recent special, I think he made a big mistake. Trying to hold your breath while moving (taking chains off) and doing after being under water for a week is retarded. People who have broken the record and stuff train to make their lungs bigger (or have naturally large lungs), and then usually meditate and such to lower their heart-rate to near death levels. It's just impossible to get close when your expending physical energy.
That being said, I have a lot of respect for him that he made it to 7 minutes. When he was near the end and his face was convulsing as he was fighting off the urge to breathe, it looked pretty scary.
Jerry_Lundegaard
Tuesday, May 9th, 2006, 4:19 PM
That last special was lame -- way too much buildup, it could have been 1 hour instead of two and not lost a thing.
He does do some pretty cool tricks, I ran across some info on the internet that explained a lot of his earlier ones.
As far as that tooth trick went, that girl had to have been a plant of some sort, she was really missing a tooth and he took out a fake one. Even knowing that the part at the end where he blew the tooth back in was cool.
What I don't like about Blaine is that his specials imply that in some way he actually has magical powers, rather than just being good at slight of hand. I hate that ****.
