Full Version: Was I Wrong In Making This Move

im not sure if this is the place to post this but heres the hand

im in the SB every folds to the button, who limps in. I pick KQ offsuit. Now i have 6500 in front of me with the blinds being 300 600. there also 14 ppl left in the tourny. Live setting. i raise it to 2000 total, the BB calls which put in all in, and the button folded. the BB had pocket 3s and hit his set to win. What bothered me though was that i was crictized for making that raise, being told it was a big move, and that i had alot of chips just to sit a wait for the final table.

But i disagreed, the way i saw it, i only ahd enough to suvive about 8 rounds, and everyone folded to the button. The play laso was generally tight at this stage, so i made the move.

The question i ahve was my move correct given the circumstances.

Whoever said you have plenty of chips is stupid.

I definitely would have raised to put pressure on the BB and get rid of the limper. Your raise was 3.3BB, which is a decent raise and the BB didn't have great pot odds to call, but he wasn't to terribly wrong in calling.

All in all, you didn't do anything too wrong. My decision would have been based on player reads because the BB obviously splashes around and obviously likes to gamble. He put all his chips in as a miniscule favorite and that information tells me that he probably was going all in if you just completed.

I would say that you made the right move just given the info you provided.

it funny, all the regulars who play in thos tournament, happens once a week, i play occasionaly, said it was a big move, and that i ahd plenty of chips to make the final table. the regulars are also the same people, who say Pocket jacks are just slight underdogs to aces cause of the straight possiblities. Its funny how for ppl who play almost every week, and do well in the tournament on a consistant basis, make the most absurd comments. i really hope these ppl set up a cash game i can play them in.

I woulda pushed all in...I hate calling all in with K-Q

Well played- nice aggressive move. BTW the big blind made a poor call, Unless he was really shortstacked. He was at best even money, and if you had a bigger pair he was in real trouble. Check out the strategy sections, some really good discussions in there.

Your thoughts about only having enough chips for 8 more rounds is a very advance way to evaluate your tournament situation. It sounds like your instincts are correct.

it's poker.

you aren't going to limp in with KQ, and you aren't going to fold. the raise was the right amount too.

to the people who say calling with 33 is wrong: he almost had to call with 33 there. OP says BB called the 2k which put him all-in. if he doesn't call with 33 with <2k left and blinds at 300/600, I don't know when he should move in.

you did nothing wrong, the guy with 33 was extremely shortstacked and he did nothing wrong by calling off his chips, these things happen...

80% of peole in tournies are donks who have no idea what they are talking about, dont even bother explaining yourself, just ignore them.

The only mistake made was by the button limper. What was he thinking open-limping from the button?

You definitely should have folded preflop.

The guy hit a set. Come on. And all you had was king high.

Dont you know anything?

A set beats king high any day of the week.

There is no possible way to argue against this logic. icon_hand.gif

Who runs this joint?

BB had to call, sillies.

It always amazes me how the LAG donkeys that call off $150 in a 1/2 game with AT all of a sudden turn all weak-tight in a $50 buy-in tournament. I think it's just that having to stop playing is worse punishment for them than losing all their money.
