Played in my first HORSE tournament yesterday, and thought I played very well in it throughout. This is the hand that ended up crippling me, resulting in a 3rd place finish (which I am not upset about at all). The only thing I was upset about at the time was that I lost my chips playing Limit Hold'em, which is supposed to be one of my better games (as opposed to Razz which I have only played a few times to date, or Stud which I detest).

Anyone play this hand any differently and are able to not lose the majority of your chips? You know the results, but try to ignore them in your analysis.

No, not at all, however, in order to convey the type of tourney I was in, and why I posted this hand, I had to provide the results.

i was just saying that this is really a bad beat. you were ahead at one point in the hand and then you lost. you're obviously not folding at any point in this hand.

Well, while I agree that it is a beat, it isn't necessarily a bad beat, AND, I am wondering if I should have shut down on the turn once he called, OR, continue to bet to make the flush draw pay to get there. It's all limit games remember, so it is different than NL.

You played it fine. Even if you shut down, you're still crippled when you lose this pot, and there's no reasonable way to fold.

As an aside, I've just started playing HORSE sngs on FT. My ITM is terrific, and oddly enough, I feel like I'm killing the razz levels, and getting reamed in LHE. I've never even played razz before, but it seems a pretty simple game to me. The stud Hi has been good to me but Stud8 is still a mystery to me. I mostly fold that level.

I find Razz to be incredibly simple (in my limited experience), but very frustrating. I play it very similar to Stud 8, but never go for high (which I hardly ever do in Stud 8 anyhow).

Even though it is limit, the bets are so large that some nolimit thinking works here. In other words, you can go all in which and bust someone out of a tournament, so it feels more like no limit then limit.

That being said, I would have probably take the same tack you did. TPTK 3 handed is pretty strong, and villian was showing weakness. Nice job, congrats on the cash.

By the way, is it me or does Razz feel more like a bluffing game then anything else? I play exclusively on up cards, I don't even care about my down cards until 5th street. If I have the best up cards I just keep firing away, most of the time the villians melt to the pressure. Of course, I find myself folding to them probably on the same kind of bluffs.

I concur completely with your assesment,but not in your comment about not even caring about the door cards, as there are many times where you have a great door card and mediocre/bad position compared to the rest of the table and shouldn't play the hand, but in general, I agree that the up-cards dictate everything in relation to your opponents.

You played fine, you shouldnt get away from this hand.

Just curious - where online are there Horse tourneys?

I ran one on my home last month and it went well (used the WSOP blind structure, including starting at 50k chips)...I'd like to play more often.
