Very important day. Pujols has to hit for the team to succeed on a day to day basis. Edmonds will have a couple days here and there where he can carry this team offensively, but Pujols is what keeps the machine churning day in/day out. Well, that and stellar pitching from the likes of ... Braden Looper?! Only reason I wasn't calling them completely crazy doing that w/ him is that Dave Duncan has earned the respect.

Oh, I went to the game the other night, here's a pic of my experience...

Double D has def earned the respect. There is no other manager/pitching coach combo in the entire big leagues that even comes close to Tony and Dave.

no longer in Bloomington/Normal I take it?
Solodell
Nope, no longer in B/N. Job transferred me to STL. Took me a while to update my profile though, but it happened like a year ago.

Did you go to school at Illinois State?
Solodell
nope, didn't go to ISU. Actually went to Southeast Missouri State. Was only in B/N because of a job I got.
SuitedAces21
Mired in a little slump right now. Need the bats to wake up.

SEMO...boooo

j/k

BTW, rivalry series this weekend. Cubs v. Cardinals at Wrigley...the best rivalry in baseball takes center state in Chicago. What sucks though is that I am going to be in Chicago all weekend, but unfortunately will be no where near Wrigley. I get to move furniture all weekend. sad.gif
Solodell
Boy, bats really do need to wake up, especially the heart of the order. This has been going on long enough now.

Prince Albert strikes down the cubbies. I love it.

Monday - score no runs
Tuesday - score no runs
Wednesday - score no runs
Thursday - score no runs
Friday - score no runs
Saturday - score no runs
Sunday - score a million.

What is the deal here man? Sunday's they go crazy offensively, and then suck the rest of the week.

Who knows? Just one of those crazy things I guess.

My main concern right now is with Edmonds. He was down last year, and watching his at-bats so far this season, I dont see a big turnaround coming any time soon. I hope it does, the Redbirds need him, but I am very pessimistic about it. I cannot believe that they signed him to an extenision for 10 million a year. He isnt worth that anymore.
SuitedAces21
A real nice win today. Coming back after being down 4-0 is a good sign.

Holy Fuckin shit. Josh Hancock was killed in a car accident last night. The game tonight has been postponed.

R.I.P Josh.

sad day

Second time in 5 years that a Cubs - Cardinals game was canceled due to the death of a Cardinals pitcher.
Solodell
I would say this team needs to hurry up and get over the Hancock death and start playing better, but they're really playing the same way since he died as they were before. Too hard to compete when 6/8 offensive positions give you essentially nothing night in and night out (only Duncan doing anything all year, Pujols has picked it up the last few weeks).
SuitedAces21
fuck!

Carpenter is out 3 months. icon_frown.gif
Solodell
This team seems to like scoring in just one inning now. Weird. Nice to see Tony is finally mixing things up, dropping Eckstein and Edmonds in the lineup, putting Duncan 4th, bringing up Ludwick and giving him a chance to play. This team still isn't going anywhere until Pujols finally starts hitting again.
aadams_22
They played well today and scored in more than one inning this time.
Solodell
nice to see a couple quality starts from Wainwright after his rough patch. I think he'll be alright, he's got good stuff. Reyes is the one I'm a bit worried about, he's kinda inconsistent.
SuitedAces21
I'm feeling a nice win streak over the next week or so. 7,8 in a rown im thinking.

a bit optimistic but not out of the question
SuitedAces21
Looks like I was dead wrong.

Question posed on another thread I saw.

Do you make the trade:
Scott Rolen to the Dodgers for
Wilson Betemit and either Andre Ethier/Matt Kemp.

FYI, the question was posed by Post Dispatch Columnist Bernie Miklasz (which suggests to me he might have know something about the Cards in discussions), not just some random internet troll.

Anyway, I think if you can get Rolen's contract for the next 3 years off the books, you might have to consider it. He's clearly not the player he was, and he's making well over 10 million. $40 million combined for Pujols/Edmonds/Rolen kind of hampers what this team can do if those guys don't produce.

Yes, I make it. This team needs to get younger, and shed salary. This trade accomplishes both.

LINK?

Got a chance to listen to his radio show today and found out this was just a hypothetical thing that him and someone from an LA paper or something just tossed around as an idea (a what if basically).

Anyway, here's a link to the thread he started on his forum. Don't usually see him make something like this if it isn't a bit of inside info, so I'm a bit surprised he didn't mention specifically that it was a radio bit.

Whether or not the proposal is true that trade is a toughy. While you are shedding salary and getting younger, you would still be giving up a Gold Glove third baseman and someone capable of winning the MVP when healthy for a couple of good young players that still haven't fully established themselves. Betemit and Ethier/Kemp have great potential, but I want to see that breakout year from them to firmly implant them as stars.
Solodell
seems like they finally are starting to hit the ball a little bit. That should help take a little bit of the pressure off the pitchers. Still not a great team, but you gotta start somewhere. 5-3 wins are certainly better than 3-1 losses.

those are the two key words for the Cardinals
Solodell
amazing how much better the offense seems to be doing w/ our tablesetter (Eckstein) ACTUALLY getting on base. Good move by Tony to drop him down to #8 for a bit. Either lit a fire under him, or allowed him to regain his confidence. Now even when they lose, it's not by scores of 13-2 or 8-1. I can't stand those games as consistently as they seemed to be happening a couple weeks ago.
SuitedAces21
King Albert is heating up! Look at out NL Pitchers.
Solodell
Pujols and Edmonds both heating up. Now if we could only find anyone with a pulse to replace Kip Wells in the rotation...
SuitedAces21
I'll be at the game tonight. Go Redbirds.

The game sucked. Thompson pitched like shit. And some clown behind me would not shut the fuck up. It happens everytime I go to a game.
Solodell
I'm heading down to the game next friday...certainly hope it's not as crappy as that.

Meanwhile, Reyes continues to pitch well down in the minors... that whole situation is becoming frustrating.

do you think Cardinals fans give a crap about the Royals

only KC cares about the so-called rivalry
Solodell
know what I care about, losing 17-8 to a crappy team like the Royals...that's embarrassing.

What royals fans call rivalry, I call the normal beatings.
