Ok so as you all know this Saturday is going to be the Kentucky Derby... Ummm Yesssir? And as many of you also know one of the biggest gambling events of the year... soooo here are some tips for those of you who are not so keen into the Sport of Kings....
-This year there is going to be a RIDICULOUS PACE to start... like last year and that *&^%*&^% quarter horse spanish chestnut sprinitng out there and killing any dreams I have for Afleet Alex to Triple... Anyway..this year is going to be more of the same with 2 speed horses (insert here later as I have forgotten the names) running out early and everyone else playing catch up... so what you really need to look for is CLOSERS!!! IM TALKING CLOSERS BABY!!! I think youre going to have a runaway with a tight pack for your exotics...but im really trying to find a couple closers to box with B.D. and L.R.
-With a lot of the top jockeys gone this year my personal feelings for the best jockey this year for the Undercard events is Garrett Gomez...
Well Miss you Jerry Bailey
-My top 2 picks are going to be Brother Derrick and Lawyer Ron... which as you will come to find out that these will be the chalks for the race... short priced ponies...and I hate having chalk on my hands...but Brother Derrick id a FREAK...let me say that again...Brother Derrick is a FREAK!!! Anyone can ride that pony...even I could win the derby @ 207... but there is some rumbling that B.D. gets a little nervous in front of big crowds and 150,000 screaming people is a BIG CROWD... soooo I have lawyer Ron up there but I have a feeling one of those 2 will not fire... I also really like SweetNorthernSaint coming out of the Midwest...just like War Emblem..
I would love to know your thoughts on this saturdays race? I am going to try and copy over some Bios of all the Horses in the field...

I'll be at the track Wednesday, Thursday, and Derby Day (Saturday). I loves me some pony betting...not to mention that I will be at catered parties all 3 days, enjoying free food, booze, and convenient betting windows.

I've never gotten the appeal of large animals running around a track with little men on them. I suppose it's fun to gamble on, since so many people do it.
Seriously though, I never got the whole "sport of kings" thing. I suppose if the king was a bookie on the side...

I'm supposed to play in my first FCP HU League match on Sunday, but that's not gonna happen if my friends successfully peer pressure me into going down for the Derby. Derby = good times, I think I'll probably end up down there.

Yeah, the races are such a small part of going to the track. It's fun trying to analyze the horse and jockey records and trying to figure out who will win. I think going to the track without betting on the races would be about as boring as a NASCAR race.

Ummm hell yeah... if they did Nascar races like Horse Races with the exotics... i think we might have some serious fun.. could you imagine hitting a trifecta with Earnhart Jr....the Rainbow warrior..and some shot....AND AROUND THE FINAL TURN IS KYLE PETTY @ 35-1!!!!!!

You can already bet on Nascar, your just not looking at the right types of bets.
I saw some good lines on...
average # of teeth the live fan has (over/under is 9)
# of women with black eyes in the stands
average number of alchoholic bevrages consumed per person

good post Mister B, I was going to start one this morning as well. I've been to the Derby 2x, its a total blast. I'm always looking for reasons to beat the chalk, this year looks prime -- Brother Derek & Lawyer Ron are both beatable IMHO, I'll be checking back later this week to see how things develop with workouts, etc

Meh Its the derby and absolutely anything is possible... But B.D. looks like a machine...hes working today...going 7f i believe depending on the weather or a half a mile tomorrow if not today... the problem is the pace setters... you saw it last year... if you get a speed duel upfront it is ANYONES race... no way in the next 99 races does Giacomo win..but thats what makes it excititng...but between SweetNorthernSaint, BD, and LR... I think if they sit back (not too far) and fire... Ill have a better idea weds after the post positions come... but did you see BD hand ride him and still pull away?

Been a long time since I've been there, all I remember is it was real easy to find
I see your horse Brother Derek worked in 49:1 for a half mile breezing in the mud, pretty good work -- he looks tough, but at a short price (4-1 maybe?) on a horse who likes to run on the front end, he's really gonna have to learn to rate and deal with all the traffic too -- I'll be trying to find ways to beat him, but you never know

Ok, I've narrowed it down to my top 4 horses -- will revise after the post draw if anything major happens. Top 4 = Sweetnorthernsaint, AP Warrior, Point Determined, and Bob and John (God I hate that name) in that order. Anything that needs to be on or near the lead is tossed out, and I am going against the 2 favorites Brother Derek & Lawyer Ron for a variety of reasons. Curious to see anyone else's picks
anyone looking for info can check DRF.com (Daily Racing Form), Kentuckyderby.com, and there is a good article on espn.com today

But seriously, I love horse racing. I can't wait for my first trip to Emerald Downs this summer. I'm a total degenerate, and it doesn't help that my good friend's uncle is a trainer, so we're down there pretty regularly.

4th street is for the tourist. If you want to have a good time on Derby go to Bardstown road. Numerous bars that caters to everyone tastes.
P.S. Anyone know anything about the horses that are running on Oaks?
