So I am in the detroit area and there are 3 casinos that have poker rooms. The games that are dealt that I can afford are NLHE, limit HE, and omaha8. So, I learned omaha hi/lo before omaha high. In fact, I still am not satisfied with how I play omaha high. I recently started screwing around with 7 stud hi/lo and am doing pretty well. But my question is this.

Do you think it's a bad thing to learn the hi/lo version before the high only version?

I don't think it matters one way or the other. I'd pick a couple of games and focus your attention on them, then branch out when you feel comfortable.

Not at all. In hi-lo games as I'm sure you are aware... your goal is to scoop, win the hi and the low. Then, when you play hi, you only have to worry about winning high hands. If you have a firm grasp of the games, read Super System on stud hi, then SSII on Stud Hi-lo. Todd Brunson writes the stud8 chapter, the guy is an animal... Chip writes the stud-hi section, and it's solid

Good luck and welcome tp FCP.

they really are different games, I wouldn't worry about it

Aight cool.

Hey King James, a quick follow up. There is a stud hi-lo section in Super System 1. (pg 245) Is this the "stud hi-lo (regular)" that Daniel refers to in his mixed games? The examples followed the eight or better rules until about a half way through, and Sklansky refers to a "nine" as in a nine low? How should this chapter be approached? Or should it be approached?

Thanks.

It shouldn't be. Read Todd Brunson's section in Super System 2 instead on Stud Hi Lo since it includes the eight qualifier through the entire section.

As for which one to learn first: it doesn't matter. They're both different games. Some minor similarities, but they're more different than the same.

Agreed with The Nuts. SSI for stud-hi and SSII for stud8. Todd Brunson does a great job.

Good luck.
