This hand is decently similar to Kate Finds A Mate, but there are some significant differences.

Bodog 3/6 NLHE (6-handed)

UTG $227
Cobalt $591

Cobalt is BB w/ Q icon_suit_diamond.gif 2 icon_suit_diamond.gif. Only been at the table for two rounds, so no significant reads. I think I've folded pre-flop almost every hand. UTG has been doing a decent amount of PF raising in that short time though.

Pre-flop:
UTG raises to $12, 4 folds, Cobalt calls

Flop ($27): T icon_suit_diamond.gif 6 icon_suit_club.gif 3 icon_suit_diamond.gif (2 players)
Cobalt checks, UTG bets $6, Cobalt raises to $30, UTG calls

Turn ($87): 7 icon_suit_heart.gif (2 players)
Cobalt bets $60, UTG calls

River ($207): Q icon_suit_heart.gif (2 players)
Cobalt checks, UTG bets $75, Cobalt calls

Final Pot: $354

Lay it on me.

I know his flop bet screams weakness, but you're only Q high, and not drawing at the nuts. I think I might just take the cheap turn here, and hope that he keeps the bets reasonable.

His super weak bet almost says TT to me, although some players just bet weak when they are weak, so it's hard to say which one he is.

Once you made the raise though, I think you need to follow through, and it's hard not to call for 75 once you hit your pair.

What about another smallish bet on the river, and fold to a big raise, but hope he calls and shows you AT or something.

Obviously, i'm not set in anything right now, just kinda giving you my immediate thoughts.

we can't really bet something and fold with the price we'll be getting.

we also can't bet and get called by air.

we can bet and get called by KT/AT type hands. Or they "could" check behind.

he told me the hand on AIM and I was supporting the check/call to induce a bluff. As if he was on a hand like AT/KT he probably isn't calling anything substantial on the river, but might bluff with air, or trying to push us off.

I think if we were beat he was going to raise the turn. Since he just called he A) had the T and wasn't too confident, or cool.gif was also on some sort of draw. Most guys will raise this turn here to "protect" their hand with one to come instead of pushing flops after a turn blanks.

I'd rather check/call then bet and just get a fold from someone who probably is pretty weak but might throw a desperation bluff.

You're right... I was typing faster than I was thinking.

I use the check/call ALL the time... So I definitely agree with that.

hehe.

I don't use check/call all the time..but on a board like that I think it's the better play this time.

Eh, I just run into so many players in NL who want to steal pots away whenever someone is weak, so it makes me an extra bet quite a bit. But yeah, I think so too, because I'm not totally confident here. Plus the overcard gives them a nice opportunity to try to bluff it.

I like it. Pretty much the whole hand. Nice c/c on the river.

Yeah, I like this hand too. If villain was more stubborn passive, I think a bet may be good here, but if he is an average SH player, he bets this river often with worse hands.

have to follow the crowd. well played. pf, i don't think I make this call out of position hu. But if its your style I don't mind it.

Looks like villain is a donk with QQ-AA. I don't know if you get that flavor of min-raising donk at the 3/6 table, but I think this is played fairly well.

With stacks this deep, against an average opponent, and getting 3.5-1 immediate, I'm making this call with almost any two cards aside from the absolute junkiest ones.

Glad to see everyone's on the same page. Villain had A icon_suit_diamond.gif J icon_suit_diamond.gif and I took a big pot with a very marginal hand. Glad I didn't make my flush. biggrin.gif

how could you not like it? Villain raised PF and then gave control of the hand to you

well played, though of course what happens if you don't spike that river Q?

Without a read, you got semi-lucky that UTG would bluff that river. Really an awful play by him (bet size in particular) unless he thought you were just betting your draw.

I'm curious about this too. Are you firing a third bullet if the river is a blank?

If I don't hit the queen, that is a very interesting question. I probably tuck my tail and run, as I figure by the turn he has some sort of pair that he's gotten stubborn with.

if no Q falls, river sets up prime for a CR bluff given that weak bet. What did he have?

I did consider that given his holding, but CR bluffs on the river are extremely risky propositions...especially given the pot-size and stack-sizes.

Did you give any consideration to leading the river? What about leading the river regardless? Diamond, queen, deuce, or any other card, except, say, an ace?

Also a possibility. Certainly more likely than CR-bluffing...though I'm not quite sure I've got the guts to put in another $120 on Q-high against a guy that raised pre-flop, called a check-raise on the flop, and called the turn.

I know its in hindsight, but does it now seem like he was playing hte nut flush draw all along? Bet , check/call, bluff bet?
