Don't have a link for this yet, but I just saw on ESPN that D-Rays prospect Delmon Young "threw the bat at the home plate umpire" after being called out on strikes.
WTF!!?!? Getting that mad in one minor league at-bat!??!

I hope they show it on ESPN...I want to know if he forcefully threw hit bat at the ump of if it was more of a "casual toss," big difference.
Also, I don't know if it is Dmitri's brother...but it is like, the #1 rated prospect in all of baseball or whatever.....so yeah...pretty big.

Yeah....let's get some predictions on how long. I'll say 10 games.

Let's see. Ortiz got five for throwing bats out of the dugout. Everett got ten for his freakout. But Alcantara only got six for his sublime karate kick.
I'm going to say 10, but I reserve the right to make it higher if tape of the incident surfaces.

It makes me happy that there's gonna be a guy in the majors who's crazy.
Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic. Delmon Young has the potential to entertain me by doing crazy shit for years.

WOW!!
I just saw video of the incident on PTI...and that thing was chucked HARD. Kornheiser said 50 game suspension should happen...and after watching that video.......I can't say I disagree....if that thing had gone higher and hit that ump in the face there could have been some serious damage done. Holy sh*t!! What a dumbass.

he's been suspended indefinitely

For some reason, I keep seeing experts somewhat defending him. At least sticking up for him with the whole he's young defense. To me, I can't even fathom this. Also, I'd be more apt to show sympathy if this was his third at bat and was a victim of several horrible calls in the game, but it was in the first inning. Is this guy so good that he's never been rung up on a bad third strike call? It happens all the time. I have to believe there was some history here between the two, otherwise, he's just insane.

Ohhhhhh they just showed it on ESPN2, that was bad. Hershiser said he could be suspended for the whole season. He's also saying that it could possibly have been an accident, and that he just threw it at the ground and hit something. Looked pretty ugly though.

From that video there is no way in hell that was an accident.

If Herschiser did say it could've been "an accident," then me must have tripled-up on the retard pills this morning....

He was just saying it's possible, since you can't see him throw the bat. He also said he's seen guys throw bats at the ground, hit something, and have it bounce pretty far.
He also said it was almost certainly on purpose.

Yeah, just saw the tape. I'm exercizing my option to up the game count. I'm guessing it'll be a minimum of 25, but probably 50.

I am sticking to my 30 game suspension guess. I'm not glad that he did it and it was a bad move but it sucks that it could wreck his career.

yeah, I saw the video, that was a longer "toss" than I expected. My initial guess would be half of however long a minor league season is. What an idiot. YOu can't take it easy on a guy who chucked a bat at an umpire.

Anything less that the rest of the season and playoffs (at all levels of baseball) will be too light. I have had many umpires that I would have loved to chuck a bat at, but I never followed through on it because the reprecussions aren't worth it.

It should be suspension for the season. That's a disgusting action.
But I'll say 50.
That was no accident. That bat had a lot of velocity on it. If it hit him in the head, he would've been out cold and most likely would've had to make a trip to the hospital.

I don't think it is possible that it was an accident...I mean, I understand a bat being able to bounce far, but that bat was moving FAST and far.....not gonna bounce off the ground with that velocity. It was on purpose, as pretty much everyone knows.
I wonder what he is gonna do all year now?? LOL.....I wonder how badly this will hurt his development, as he was probably gonna be with Tampa Bay come August or so...
