Bonds hit #710 last night. He is batting .231 with an OBP of .538 this season. Fucking ridiculous. I sure hope he retires after this year...he must know that everybody will hate him even more than they already do if he breaks Aaron's record.
HangukMiguk
didn't he once say that he only cares about breaking ruth's record, simply because he's white?

he'll probably retire when he hits 715.
wsox8
I hope everyone walks him so he never passes Ruth or Aaron...
KowboyKoop
He won't be passing Aaron. Have you seen him run the bases after his second homerun? He can BARELY get around the bases without limping and grimacing with every single step. He can hardly move anymore..he won't hold up this entire year and he is done after this year. He'll pass Ruth, but not Aaron.

He's not getting to Aaron's record...nothing to worry about. It's only a matter of time before he takes a prolonged stint on the DL. Then after this year, he'll be done for good. He can barely move these days it seems.
keith crime
If he was willing to look really bad he could definitely Pete Rose it to the record. Even if it took him 2 years the devil rays or someone would throw him out there.
aadams_22
Apparently Bonds was hit in the head with a batted ball during batting practice and may be a no go. I don't want to see him pass Babe, but I don't want to see the guy get hurt like this.

Bonds is innocent until proven guilty......

runthemover
i'd like to see him do it. im from the bay area so im obviously brainwashed but yea i'm an A's fan and also like the giants.

he has said this year was gonna be his last year but every athlete changes their mind. honestly if he played a full year this year and next he'd still might need a portion of another season to beat aaron

But in the media he is guilty until proven innocent, which has not happened.

Bonds hit a MAMMOTH homerun on ESPN tonight.

Game was in Philly. Fans booed him every at-bat (obviously), but he got a pretty rousing standing ovation after the homerun.

QFT, and I hate him even more now.

Why wouldn't he just sign that guys ball? Is he intentionally trying to get people to hate him? Especially given the fans status as a serviceman. Just sihn the damn ball, that's all you have to do. And then to require him to sign a waiver for Bonds on Bonds? He's got some balls.

Bonds on Bonds is just a pathetic attempt for Bonds to make up for a whole career of being an asshole. It's a waste of primetime air space.

Here is an interesting article from ESPN, putting Bonds' cheating in an historical perspective.

Here's a question: how come Bonds catches so much more flak than McGwire, or others suspected of steroid abuse?

Also, is taking steroids worse than using a corked bat or a doctored ball?

Lastly, is taking steroids worse than throwing a game or a series?
aadams_22
There's a big difference though. Steroids are a controlled substance which means that it is illegal to possess them without a prescription. Anyone caught with steroids could face jail time...you won't get thrown in the slammer for possessing a corked bat or a doctored baseball. Does that make those two right...absolutely not, but you really need to see the different contexts.

The reason that McGwire doesn't get as much flack as Bonds is the simple fact that McGwire was a hell of a lot nicer to the fans and the press than Bonds has been.

"Say it ain't so Tris" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

P.S. Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame!

That was a few years ago. You'd be hard pressed to find a link anymore.
The Czar
Bonds did say that, which shows his ignorance considering his kids are half white. Also, McGwire has also become a complete joke since the hearings, but he doesn't hold and he isn't chasing down sports most sacred records. He ducked out just in time. Kinda like Sammy. Everyone knows why Sammy isn't in the league anymore, but why talk about it? He isn't challenging the record presently.

Here's another interesting article.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...osterman/060411

Read it and just try not to hum Rick James' Superfreak whenever you see Bonds.

Here are some reasons why Bonds wants to pass Ruth.

He will struggle to catch Aaron's 765 career homers. But I would never rule it out.

Did Aaron come out of nowhere and hit ten extra homeruns when I wasn't looking? biggrin.gif

He hit 10 for the Kansas City Royals at the end of his career, but nobody counts them, or for that matter, even speaks of them because the Royals suck so bad.

Always cracking on my Royals...and for no good reason. In a couple years, you'll be sorry. Gordon and Butler are gonna be huge.

I never thought I'd feel bad for Bonds until I saw Sports Center this morning. Even though he obviously has used steriods he didn't deserve what happened to him last night. I also give him credit for not charging the mound with a baseball bat. I probablly would have done that.

LOL......your foot must be getting AAAAWWWWFFFFUUUULLLLYYYYY tired by now..lol.

Don't worry, I can take the Royals jokes. I can handle the losing, but with the decisions being made recently....they deserve to be made fun of. Completely abandoned the youth movement so far......

Maris' numbers aren't exactly Earth shattering. A career .260 hitter with 275 HRs and less than 1500 hits. He went to 4 all star games, two AL MVPs, and one Golden Glove. There are plenty of guys with similar numbers that most people wouldn't consider for the hall.

How about this guy. He hit .265 for his career with over 2000 hits and 398 HRs. He averaged 30 HRs, 94 RBIs, and 89 runs scored per year, back to back NL MVPs, 5 straight Golden Gloves, 4 straight Silver Sluggers, 6 All Star appearances, one Lou Gherig award, and one Roberto Clemente Award. Does this guy get in?

Dale Murphy probablly should be in, but his last six seasons stunk. If you put him in you can make a case for Mattingly as well.

Anyone who put up Murph's numbers on the teams he played for deserves some consideration. He's also a great guy that baseball could use in this era of ego, greed, and blatant cheating.

That, and he's my childhood hero. Murphy and Bob Horner.

What are the odds that he announces his retirement as soon as he hits 715?

My comment about Maris had nothing to do with the Hall of fame.

AT Oakland. Good job FNG. I hope Barry gets hit by Muni. Or goes to jail. They didn't lock up OJ. Let's start with Barry. Or at least make him do community service AT the Giants ballpark. Wear one of those orange vests and pick up trash. I'll follow you Barry, littering as I go...
