His entire career he's followed the $$$$$$. He will play again, who's got a 2-3 year deal for the most $$? Look at his trak record. Always been one of the most greedy players. I'm not saying he is wrong, but...

Is Clemens even gonna be that good when he returns? He looked pretty shaky in the WBC, and I don't know how much he is working out his arm now or anything, but I gotta think that whatever team brings him in might be expecting a little too much out of him and could be setting themselves up for disappointment.

I would think he would want at least a two year deal for the stability, but whether he plays out that long is debatable.

Stability? No, he's done after this season, if he even pitches this season at all. If by some miracle he pitches in 2007 he will probably pull this same mid-season bullshit and only pitch half a season.

Well of course if he comes back that he will THINK that he can be dominant..but I'm sure he planned on being dominant in the WBC as well...and he looked shaky at best. He'll come back, I'm 95% sure of that, I'm just wondering if whatever team brings him in will be making a mistake or not....

I dont live in Houston anymore, but I did manage to go to an Astros game last week. While in town, I also watched several games on TV and caught the local broadcasts and sport pages. The word down there is that they are very optomistic that Clemens will sign with them. The Astros (management and players) love him and want him back. They say he's trying to cut the season short since he got a little tired at the end of last season. I dont think I believe all that, but that's what I'm hearing.

I'm a little behind on my Astros, but I'll catch up once the NBA is done.

I don't think the Astros want to waste their money on Clemens. Their staff is doing very well right now and he just seems like way too much money.

Tomorrow will be the 20th anniversary of Clemens' 20-strikeout performance!

Clemens will sign with Houston next month. He is taking the time off this year so that he will be fresh for the playoffs.

If anyone remembers, last year towards the end of the season his arm was tired and he was not as effective hence the extra rest.

Clemens is being a cherry picker. If Houston had a losing record, he'd retire immediately no matter how much they paid him.

I dont know if thats what they are going to pay him, but yes, he's pretty much worth it. And it goes beyond just wins/losses.

For the winning part, the starting pitching has been doing ok, but they could still use some help. And the bullpen has been bad. They might want to move one of those young starters to the bullpen.

For beyond winning, you need a sense of history. Back in the 80's, Nolan Ryan was a star and he went to the Rangers primarily because the Astros owner at that time wouldnt pay. The fans basically went crazy. They hated and never forgave that owner. Some fans are still pissed about it. Drayton McLane, who bought the team from the old owner, is perfectly aware of this. The attention Clemens gets from fans in Houston is unreal. If the asking price isnt completely out of this world, I would expect McLane to do everything possible to sign him.

Yes and as Prince said it makes good business sense. The fans will sell out everyone of his starts, and even if he has 80% of what he had last year, a rotation of Petite, Clemens and Oswalt will sell a lot of tickets and win a lot of games.

Oh, and Lidge is now aware that he has been tipping his pitches this season and will hopefully fix that and get back to his old self.

Steve Phillips on ESPN radio this morning said he's gong to the Red Sox.

Heh...my favorite rumor getting passed around is that the reason he's waited so long (just about 50 games, right?) is that he got a steroid suspension, but the league wants to keep it on the dl. I cannot back that up with any facts...just hearsay and conjecture, which as we know are kinds of evidence.
