i think i'm missing something here...can i use one program to go from my AVI to burning it to a dvd in a standard dvd encoding (so my dvd player will read it)??

Nero will do it, with wizards. You need to buy it, but I think there is a trial you can dl from www.ahead.de

I think that TMPEnc will convert AVI to MPEG2 (i suppose it depends what is in the AVI container) then you could burn it with, I'm not aware of a freeware DVD authoring tool. There probably is one somewhere, google it up.
Nero trial is a no go?

alcohol 151 will work and has a trial dl. Alcohal 57? or something like that will work, and is free. but it gave my pc angina.
