I have Lugo on both my teams. I am not pleased.

I've heard a rumor that the Cubs are talking about making a trade for Mike Sweeney of the Royals. I know that there is probably only a 1% chance of this actually happening...as it really doesn't make sense for the Cubs....but I would LOVEEEEEEEEE for this to happen if we could get an arm or two. I can dream....

I actually heard Mientkiewicz was the one we were going for, to replace Lee's glove and provide a half way decent bat. We also have John Mabry who can fill in at 1B.

I would LOVE that just as much. In fact....that may be even better.......whatever gets Justin Huber to the big leagues.......Minky's glove has looked pretty good (save for one horrible error), but his bat hasn't looked that great at all....but it is early.

Do the Cubs have anyone in the minors that can play 1B? The farm system's usually fairly good.

NOOOOOO. Please let them take Mintkiewicz.....we'll even throw in Angel Berroa and Emil Brown......just give up a good pitcher..........one good pitcher.....PLEASE!!!

Seriously though....we are getting rid of Minky at some point...I hope it is now.

To get rid of Mientkiewicz and Berroa.......yes. Getting rid of Berroa is easily worth 5 more wins a year by itself...he's a retard.

Yeah we have Brandon Sing and Brian Dopriak...both of whom looked very good in Spring Training.

Over the past two season in the minors Sing hit 58 homers and drove in 165 RBI's at high Class A Daytona and Class AA West Tennessee, and Dopriak hit 55 homeruns and drove in 196 RBI's in low Class A Lansing and high Class A Daytona.

I still can't believe it. And we were actually doing well too.

So much for Dopriak...he broke his foot rounding first in the season opener for Class AA West Tennessee and he is out for 6-8 weeks. This just keeps getting better and better. angry.gif

As long as Maddux continues pitching like it's '96 and not '06, you guys may still have a shot at the Central.

I think we'll be fine...knock on wood.

Good stretch of games here against florida, milwaukee & Pitt. Hopefully we can play above .500 in this stretch. So far so good. Cubs 6 / Florida 3.

Maddux can't pitch 7 scoreless innings every game. He'll be .500 by the end of the year....

How is it not an argument. Your "#1" starter has 0 wins so far. Like I was saying your 4-0 Maddux can't pitch every game.

The Cardinals staff is a lot better. To back Carpenter (3-1) up they have Marquis (3-1), Mulder (2-0), Ponson (2-0), and Suppan.

If you think the Cubs can rely on Sean Marshall and Jerome Williams to help Maddux carry the load, then enjoy another losing season. smile.gif

Right now....Cardinals starting rotation > Cubs starting rotation....

However, if Wood and Prior come back healthy (that is a GIGANTIC if..), then it may be the other way around.
The Czar
The Cubs have a fairly week schedule coming up, so they need to win a lot more than .500 so they can tread water against the better teams until Lee comes back. I broke my wrist my junior year of HS and was not the same hitter for three years. You can't bench press even when you come back because of the stress the weights put on the wrist. It's not a good situation for Lee. I'll be in the freezing bleachers tonight wondering why I'm there after about three innings.

If you think I'm a Cubs fan, you need to do a little bit more research. So "my" Maddux doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

Maddux winning his usual 15 games this season (which certainly seems like a reality now) makes that rotation a lot deeper, particularly when Prior comes back. I'd add Wood in that sentence, but I'd be much more surprised by a return to health from him. More importantly, he's filled the gap of "#1" very nicely while Carlos Zambrano struggled (until his most recent start). I said nothing about the Cubs staff being superior or even their team being better than the Cardinals, because they aren't, but your "Maddux can't pitch every game" point was so inane I'm having second doubts.

If you interpret "may still have a shot at the Central" as "the Cardinals suck," somebody needs to chill out on the overreactions. Their offense, even without Lee, can win two out of three games in a series against any other team in the Central. That's enough to keep them hanging around for the next 6-8 weeks.

Yes, maybe 6-8 weeks, but I don't see them competiting with Houston and St. Louis for the central in September. Enjoy.

I would care enough to enjoy, but you seem to be missing the fundamental point here. Oh well.
