Looks decent for me. I would want to either bet/call the turn or river here with only 4 cards that beat me against this guy.

Looks like a good call.

I would be folding this preflop, but playing it with a raise as you did...

I agree with the flop/turn, but I'm probably just check/calling the river. Even if this guy is a total maniac, by calling a preflop raise he could easily have an ace.

On a somewhat related note, I was at the B&M and this funny hand came up:

I limped from the button with A9o, there was a typical 5-6 limpers before me.

The flop comes 222, checks to me, so I bet with probably the best hand, and get about 4-5 callers.

Turn comes another 2. Checks to me again, I bet again, and get 3 callers.

River comes a T. All of a sudden the guy on my right leads, I raise, folds back to him and he 3-bets, I cap it.

He turns up JTo. I've never seen anyone so confused when I got the pot biggrin.gif

Back to this hand.

I like it. Villain is a maniac, as you say. So I like it.

An ace and a maniac are usually 3betting/5 betting/7 betting preflop, so I'm not too worried.

I far prefer a check/call. You have a showable hand (against this opponent) and the maniac will probably bet 32o if you check to him. Your bet has absolutely no chance of folding a better hand, and only really shows value if villain will fold K-high (doubtful) or simply call with Q-high or worse. You have to be pretty certain that he will bluff-raise Q-high or worse (and also not open-bet Q-high or worse himself) to make bet/call +EV, given the frequency that maniac actually has the best hand or a split (say ~20% of the time?).

He's a maniac. Let him measure out his own length of rope. It's what he lives for.

And Wingy: FWIW, I find that some truly insane maniacs like to hide the overwhelming strength of their A2o by simply cold-calling preflop. They save the 3-bets for boring winners like 83o. I'm not going to presume that this particular maniac thinks on such a high level, but you never know. smile.gif That said, if there's a dead read that says "he can't have an Ace because he didn't reraise preflop", OP should C/R the river, because maniac-boy will bet if checked to.

good points.

and yes, there are a couple of types of maniac's, I was thinking of the ones that if they have a playable hand, ram and jam. The guy you are talking about is also likely, and means more money for us smile.gif.

But check/calling really isn't getting full value against someone who plays anything. We have the second nuts, and need to at least make it two bets on a street somehow, somewhere.
