This guy continues to amaze. 3 HRs today, including a walkoff. Truly building one of the great careers in baseball as long as he keeps doing what he's doing.

I MIGHT be a tad bit biased, but he's still unreal!

Biased or not, you speak the truth.

I am on the other side of that rivalry and there wasn't a single thing that Solodell said that wasn't true. He is the best player in all of baseball.

I think it's still too early to tell...he's only 26 years old.

That's pretty sad...I'm older than him.

yeah he is damn good... if he keeps this up he is a sure hall of famer..

Not even close. Pujols is also a fairly good defensive player....and is AT LEAST as good of a hitter...but probably is a better hitter.

Okay, by this logic, Derek Jeter is a WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYbetter player than ANYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYactive player in baseball today..you know, because of what he has done in the World Series in his career. Just because Ortiz had big hits during ONE postseason run doesn't make him better than Pujols. What did Ortiz do in the playoffs last year?? Why did he let his team get swept by the ChiSox?? Your logic is horrible. Ortiz is a great hitter, but is a DH. Pujols is a greater hitter, and is a good first basemen.

Pujols > Ortiz....and it's really not all that close. Pujols is the best player in the game right at this very moment...overtaking Ichiro on my list...as he seems to be declining a bit and Pujols is clearly still getting better.

The exact same thing Ortiz did minus the 3-run HR in the first AB of the series. A handful of hits and 1 RBI.

I feel to see how this proves your point whatsoever.

If they're even or even close to Ortiz in the regular season then the playoffs are the only thing to judge whos better. Pujols had an a terrible playoffs while Ortiz proved to be the most clutch hitter in baseball. Are you going to tell me I'm wrong on that?

Ok answer this question, if the game is tied in the bottom of the 9th in a regular season or post season game, who would you rather have up at the plate....Ortiz or Pujols?

Yes, I am.

In the 2004 playoffs:
Pujols: 24-58, 6 HR, 14 RBI, 9 BB, 6 SO
Ortiz: 22-55, 5 HR, 19 RBI, 13 BB, 10 SO

Boy, Ortiz sure crushed Pujols in playoff hitting.

Look, I have nothing against Ortiz, but this bit about clutch hitting is ridiculous. And you seem to be forgetting a certain 1700-foot homerun off of Brad Lidge in the NLCS.

Ortiz- walk off home run vs. angels
walk off home run vs. yankees
walk off single vs. yankees
home run in 8th to put the game within one vs. yankees
home run in world series vs. cardnals

Pujols-walk off home run vs. astros

Okay this is getting kinda old, lets just have a poll and see what everybody thinks.

Their HITTING is close. Pujols plays good defense. Ortiz plays NO defense. Are you saying defense is no factor in baseball?? Surely not.

Also, Pujols did NOT have a terrible playoffs......as otherwise noted. Ortiz was better in the clutch situations during that ONE playoff run. It takes a LOT more than that to be a better all-around player though. Where did Ortiz disappear to during last year's playoffs???

Also, if the game was tied in the bottom of the ninth, I'd take Pujols with no hesitation.

In 2004, I believe Pujols tied Beltran for the most HRs in a playoff series in that series they played.

They were talking about his today on the radio (in STL), they've both played in 8 playoff series in their careers. BA is like .331 to .301 in favor of Pujols. OBP and Slugging both favor Pujols.

Both are tremendous hitters, I'd say pretty close to equal, except that Pujols has actually done it for more years. Throw in the fact that Pujols plays good defense and stole 15+ bases last year puts him ahead.

Look at the numbers I showed in the poll thread I created...it pretty much proves Pujols to be better in every single way than Ortiz..with the exception that Ortiz has more RBI's during the past two regular seasons. Even Pujols' postseason numbers are significantly better.

A friend of mine ran into Pujols and his wife a few years ago in San Francisco.

Even then, he thought that Pujols looked to be around 30.

I've never seen him up close but is he really just 26? If that is his true age, then as long as he stays healthy, the Hall of Fame awaits.

From what I hear...there is really no clue as to exactly how old he is...but he is almost assuredly older than what he is listed....I'd say probably 28 or 29...but regardless....he'll be a great hitter for a LONG time..even if he has to eventually be a DH in the AL.

His profile on MLB.com says he's 26. I can't remember the guy's name, but I talked with someone that played HS and JC ball with Pujols in the Kansas City area and he verified his age. I'm not sure if Pujols has his Ameican citizenship yet, but if he does I would say that he can't have falsified documents.

Ortiz doesn't even play defense.. Pujols offense kills Ortiz anyway... Without Ortiz in Boston his numbers are down. Also, I usually see Ortiz hit a HR or go 0-3..

Since he only went 0-3 16 times last year, I guess he hit a home run in the other 143 games he played.

Ortiz is not that much of a liability at first. Below league average, but far from terrible. I'd take a drunk Ortiz over Giambi.

Let's not turn this into an Ortiz sucks thread. Let's turn the attention back to the incredible Pujols.

Ortiz is one of the best hitters in baseball. No doubt about it. I don't think it was anyone's intention to put him down, all I, for one, am doing is arguing those who say he's better than Pujols.

Heh...you make it sound like there's more than one.

Pujols hit #10 tonight...amazing.

I gurantee that if you took a poll of who you would want up in a tied game in the bottom of the 9th, Ortiz would win unless people just have no idea about baseball.

Listen, I can maybe see a case for Pujols being a better overall player but as far as being clutch, its not close, Ortiz is 20X more clutch than Pujols.

No disrespect to him because hes a phenominal player, might end up being one of the greatest of all time but not close to Ortiz as far as a clutch player.

Ortiz would win if you took a poll of people who didn't know baseball.
if you took a poll of knowledgeable people, pujols wins.
in fact, pujols is probably most people's first choice.

hilarious tonight.
pop fly to centre field, not deep.
bengie molina on second, and he actually goes to third on johnny damon's arm. it was hilarious, the play took like 20 minutes.

Point #1....maybe.

Point#2....very funy. Last year Carl Crawford (maybe Gathright...one of the Rays speedsters for sure) took third from FIRST on a fly ball to Damon.

That reminds me, a new shirt for sale outside fenway says something to the effect of, "Damon: looks like Jesus, acts like Judas, throws like Mary"

I'm glad to see that the creative wheels are still turning on Lansdown.

That's nice, but that doesn't exactly back up this idea that Pujols had a terrible postseason. And that's where you were completely wrong.

Papi gets big hits. Pujols is better overall. Both are phenomenal. I see no need to drag this out further.

your point is being proven wrong as we speak...lol.

Ortiz had ONE amazing postseason in 2004. It was awesome, but let's not get carried away with it. Pujols has had his share of "clutch" hits/homeruns as well. Methinks you are a bit of a homer.

Try not to be.

Why don't you actually think of an argument that is actually holds water?

Pujols Postseason Stats

Ortiz's Postseason Stats

Seems to me like they both have one amazing postseason.

Pujols Postseason stats are better than Ortiz's.

Pujols: Avg .336, R 28, HR 10, RBI 29, TB 85
Ortiz: Avg .301, R 19, HR 8, RBI 32, TB 79

The only thing that Ortiz has on Pujols is RBI's. Just because the Red Sox won that World Series doesn't make Ortiz a better player. Pujols did everything that was asked of him...it was the team that didn't live up to their end of the bargain. One player doesn't a team make. Next time why don't you actually think of a legitimate argument instead of throwing out Red Sox homer BS...you're letting your loyalty cloud your judgement.

Seriously, it's like we're repeating the same thing over and over again. Pujols didn't have a dominating World Series, but at least he showed up. Rolen/Walker/Edmonds were nowhere to be found. But his overall postseason success is greater than Ortiz's.

But no, he didn't have an amazing postseason. Not at all.
