Eh..well, the counter argument to yours would be that it is also pretty tough to have a 36 game hit streak at the end of the year and then wait an entire offseason and then come right back and immediately start another 20 game hit streak. Not necessarily saying that argument wins..but I think it does have some merit. I mean..it's still 56 major league games and it seems a little wierd to punish Rollins for starting his streak in late August instead of another time of year. Who knows though..he won't get there anyways.
I like this argument better. 56 games is 56 games regardless of when they happen. It'll be harder for Rollins anyway once you take into account that the media attention on him will be far more intense than on Joe D. back in the day.
And screw that Yankee ******* anyway. Ted Williams was the MVP that year. Hell, he had a higher average than Joe during the streak.
It'd be great for baseball if he keeps it going for a while, whether or not he makes it.
