I have had horribly sharp pain in my stomach, quite close to my right hip for most of the day. I've been told this is what it feels like when you need to get your appendix out. If anyone has had this done, can you help me out?

Maybe I'm crazy but I've heard of these people called doctors that might be able to help. If you think it hurts now, imagine how it would feel to have a appendix burst on you.

Go get it checked out RIGHT NOW. I had the same pain on a Thursday night last semester. I spent all night in pain and threw up quite a bit. By the next day around noon, I was in the hospital and they took it out immediately because it was about to burst. It doesn't take long. Go to the hospital now.

I woke up about 2 a.m. with a throbbing pain. Was throwing up bile by 7 a.m. Was ready to die by 9 a.m, got it pulled out at 10:00, as the appendix began to spasm and tear.
Go to the doctor.

If we can take them out and still live, why not take them out before you get the pain or it bursts. Same thing with tonsils. It just makes sense to take the dam thing out. I have so many unanswered questions. Can someone please help? And another thing why is human blood red? Why can't it be green. Oh and another one....

Actually, the pain goes away if it bursts. Of course then you die, but, you know, it doesn't hurt anymore.

You don't want to risk surgery unless it is necessary.

Get it checked out
right away. Also, If you can't touch the hurt part without feeling like you'll die, It probably needs to come out.

If you can live with one Kidney, why doesn't everyone donate one?
The reason is between 10-20% of people who had surgery in the last year died during it, or from complications with it. Not good to risk it.

Tonsils prevent diseases like laryngitis. They are a part of the immune system.
Why would anyone go through surgery to prevent a chance at a disease?
Oh, and hemoglobin is red when saturated with oxygen.

Alright, so I'm okay. The pain was so bad that I couldn't stand up, and it would go away and then come back multiple times throughout the day. Someone suggested that it could be my appendix and I freaked out. The pain finally went away for good and I was able to get to sleep. It hasn't come back at all today. Thanks for the concern and advice from everyone.

Hopefully this isn't the "and then the pain goes away, you feel ok again, and then you die" part of appendicitis.

No, but I seriously don't think it's appendicitis, I think the pain would have been constant, it sounds like I didn't have it nearly as bad as the other guys who have actually had apendicitis. I think I just got paranoid when someone made that suggestion to me.

I used to have the same issue - intense lower right quadrant pain, but never appendicitis - never got diagnosed

I don't know, but with kidney stones i believe you have intense pain and then it goes away for awhile...

OK, this thread is getting a bit weird...
Still, I had 2 scares with my appendix. The first was a bacterial infection in my intestines (damn that Taco Bell), the second time was appendicitis. Simple surgery done orthoscopically. Appendicitis pain is usually indicated by a pain in the belly (near the belly button) that then gradually moves to the lower right.
This is always a good quick diagnostic tool:
