a definite stretch.
the jays are the trendy pick, and are definitely much improved. i don't think they can be considered WS favourites though by any means, or even AL East favourites.
it is nice to finally read a column that isn't purely yankees or red sox though i guess.

I'm a Jays fan, but let's not get nuts here.
The Jays are like the Penguins in hockey; they made some improvements on paper, but they still have to get it done at game time. World Series is a stretch!

true, though i don't know about the analogy. the penguins just got a few big-name players with nothing that could resemble a winning team.
the jays have filled in needs - except up the middle defensively, the jays are very solid all around, and can compete with the top teams.
i do agree though that they need to prove it for a few games, since chemistry and other aspects need to be strong before they can contend even for a playoff spot.

I'd be happy just to see the Jays up over 90 wins and in contention for the playoffs this year. There's potential for some kind of surprise season, but there are also some serious caveats:
Losing O-Dog might prove to be pretty big, as we got worse defensively in the infield (as evidenced by all the errors so far, but hopefully that has more to do with nerves and inexperience and less to do with actual talent as we all fear) while putting together a rotation of all groundball pitchers. I'm sure JP took that into account, but gambling on Adams and Hill is just that; a gamble.
Plus, there's Burnett's injury and the fact that we're paying him for his potential rather than his actual productivity, so we'll have to see if he can find his groove here. Lilly's durability is also a concern, though I think Doc will be Doc, Chacin will pick up where he left off last year, and Towers will be your typical 12-11 guy in the fifth spot.
I'm happy with the bullpen, extremely happy with the batting lineup, and I like the depth we have on the bench, with 4 decent corner outfielders to play in 2 spots every night.
All in all, we're better than we were last year, we're closer to the Yanks and Sox than we were last year (or since 93, for that matter), and we should be involved in the division all year.
So yeah, 90 wins is my estimate of a reasonable goal.
