The Royals just traded one of their better pitching prospects, J.P. Howell for Joey Gathright of the D-Rays........ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.......I'm not so sure about this trade. Howell has reportedly been having a lot of shoulder problems lately..so maybe this is a good trade if that is true.....but this seems to be a bit of a wierd trade. He'll probably help our offense because of his speed and probably our outfield defense too.......but still....seems to be a wierd move, but for now, I'll trust Dayton.

Yeah....our outfield defense has become infinitely better with him in CF, DeJesus in LF, and no more DEAD TO ME (LF) playing defense....so that's good. I don't like the idea of trading away one of our better pitching prospects to get him, but then again, Howell doesn't have that great of stuff and will likely never be more than a #4 or #5 pitcher.....so we'll see how it goes. I'm cautiously optimistic about it......

Also, whatever happened to greatwhite's proclamation that this thread would be nothing more than a Royal's bashing thread??

Game Recap: Pittsburgh 6, Kansas City 10

Winning Pitcher: Redman (4-4, 5.95)
Losing Pitcher: Wells (0-1, 16.20)

Box Score: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...pitmlb_kcamlb_1

Game Recap: After Redman spotted the Pirates four runs in the top of the first inning, it was a great game for Kansas City from that point onward. Ten runs on nine hits and eleven walks...pretty balanced attack including a big RBI double from Buck (along with his two walks) and a 2-for-3 effort from Teahen (with a walk). Mark Teahen has really been hitting much better since being called back up from Omaha....in 18 games since returning he's batting .315 with a .351 OBP and a .796 OPS.....so hopefully he continues to improve. Also pretty solid pitching after the first inning, with Redman settling down to give us five innings, Peralta good for two, and Dessens and Burgos worked an inning each to close it out.

I think every team in the AL Central won. Nice job Royals, you should play the Pirates every game and you'll do fine.

I guess that's some kind of shot at Royals pitching?? You are saying our pitching is bad?? Awesome insult......except it doesn't have much sting coming from a fan of the team who's depending on a guy who is currently being outpicthed by all of these current Royal's pitchers....Todd Wellemeyer, Brandon Duckworth, Bobby Keppel, Elmer Dessens, Jimmy Gobble, Joel Peralta, Mike Wood and Scott Elarton. Good luck riding that near 43 year old 5.21 ERA arm to anything meaningful this year.....

Why the f*ck is Paul Bako playing......what, our retard manager can't let a player who has a good night play the next night??? How can a batter ever get hot if he isn't allowed to play three f*cking games in a row...rediculous. Broke-Bako Mountain strikes again.

06/21/06--Pittsburgh 4, Royals 6 (THE GATHRIGHT ERA BEGINS?)

Winning Pitcher: Dessens (4-6, 3.89)
Losing Pitcher: Torres (2-4, 4.60)

Box Score: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...pitmlb_kcamlb_1

Game Recap: Good win again for the Royals, who have been playing fairly well lately. Wood was let down big time by the defense in the first couple innings and thus was charged with four runs (two earned). However, he pitched fairly well, inducing a lot of ground balls. The offense was pretty good in the comeback, especially Mark Teahen, who hit a big go-ahead home run and newcomer Joey Gathright, who got on base twice in three at-bats...including a beautiful bunt single.....Burgos got the save in the 9th by getting Jason Bay to ground into a double play with the tying run on base....good game all around except for the defense in the first two innings.

No, the Royals are definitely a better team now that we've improved out outfield defense, changed our pitching staff around significantly, and a lot of our younger hitters are starting to come on strong....we're better than the Pirates. We still suck overall though..but maybe we'll be able to build our record up to being somewhat respectable.

I'm going to the Omaha Royals vs. Iowa Cubs game tonight, so I'll get to see some prospects in action.

Yeah, they are in Des Moines tonight..and that's where I live now, so I'm gonna go check out Huber, Guiel (a personal fave of mine) and Denny Bautista is pitching....so it will either be a really really good game or really really horrendously bad....either way, I'll report what I see.
KowboyKoop
Observations from Omaha Royals-Iowa Cubs game....

A. Holy sh*t Denny Bautista's legs are tiny. His deliverly is all shoulder/arm..that's not a good thing....he struggled again today and he's just flat out gotta change some things if he ever wants to be a good major league pitcher. He's got the stuff...he was unhittable the 4-5 batters last night where he was "on," but he is just way too inconsistent.

B. Justin Huber is in a huge slump....just looks lost up there right now.

C. 22-year old reliever Leo Nunez looked lights out...he's been pitching awesome in Omaha at a pretty young age....very impressive stuff from him. He made the first two batters he faced look like Little Leaguers.

D. Aaron Guiel rules.

Game Recap: Great win for KC tonight. Duckworth was shaky but at least got through five with the lead. DeJesus had a nice game, going 3 for 5 with a huge two run double and the bullpen was excellent...as Dessens, Gobble, and Burgos combined for four innings of shutout relief on only two hits. Burgos was particularly good in working through the heart of the order to protect the one run lead. Good stuff tonight, besided the one four run inning for the Brewers. Would be nice to get the series win tomorrow...Redman has won four straight..so it's possible.

Pathetic that Graffanino is starting at 2B over Esteban German. Why play your younger and potential future starting 2B for years to come who is sporting a .421 OBP when you can give old utilityman Graffanino more at-bats. Wow our manager is f*cking retarded. Pathetic. Funny how he's punishing German for having a "poor glove" despite judging the second baseman ONLY on his performance in center field..a position he had NEVER, not ONCE, played before Bell throws him out there this season..and then punishes him when he makes an couple mistakes out there....just retarded. Put Mark Grudzielanek in LF and lets see how he does....oh, he misjudged one ball, guess he's a defensive liability and had better never play regularly again.

Losing Pitcher: Helling (0-2, 8.64)

Box Score: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...milmlb_kcamlb_1

Game Recap: Great win for the Royals today..to win our third straight series, all against NL Central teams. Got 7 shutout innings from Redman today as he won his 5th straight game and the offense was very balanced and very effective, as only Teahen and DEAD TO ME (SS) were hitless. 13 hits and 7 walks for the other seven guys, including Mientkiewicz going 3 for 3 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, 3 RBIs overall and a double. Peralta and especially Gobble were great from the pen and overall the Royals have really started to play better in winning 8 of their last 11, so that's nice to see.

Question. The Royals are now 7-5 against the National League this year...what would our record be if we were in the National League. Based on recent events, I'd have to think it'd be noticably better....perhaps we'd be 30-46 or 32-44 or something like that....maybe even better. We play Cincy and St. Louis on the road the next two series though, so that Interleague record could drop to .500 or below, but hopefully we can steal a series on the road again.

Good question. There's a discussion of the difference between the leagues over at SoSH and it's been suggested that moving an AL team over the the NL would add ten wins to the team over the course of a season. So a 52-110 Royals team would only lose 100 in the National League. I would guess that improvements wouldn't be uniform for all teams and that a team like the Royals would actually benefit more than those 10 games, but I can't really back that up with anything.

It's a good dicussion and the Royals get some love on the second page....not much, but some.

I'd say 10 wins a year would be a pretty good number to start at, but the AL Central is arguably the toughest division (pretty close with the AL East anyways as of now) and the NL Central may be the weakest right now in the NL...I mean...the Cards are good..but the Reds as the second best team in that division?? Ehh...I don't know..I might be inclined to think that if the Royals were in the NL Central instead of the AL Central there might be an even bigger difference...but really it's too tough to say. We'll see what our record ends up being this year, because if we keep playing like we are right now the rest of the way (which is a longshot, but still, there's hope) then we may even be able to avoid 100 losses. That's unlikely, but it'd be nice to just improve as the year goes on..b/c when Gordon and Butler and others get here....the offense is gonna be enormously better...along with getting a lot healthier with DeJesus and MacDougal and Grienke and adding more time for Gathright and German..and no more Berroa hopefully....future is definitely brighter in KC than most people think....hopefully it's starting to produce some results soon.

06/27/06 -- Cincinnati 7, Kansas City 8

Winning Pitcher: Affeldt (3-5, 6.99)
Losing Pitcher: Coffey (3-2, 2.61)

Box Score: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...kcamlb_cinmlb_1

Game Recap: Royals down 5-1 after three innings....we had them right where we want them. Royals came back to take a 7-5 lead with a great offensive effort (most notably by DEAD TO ME (LF)) and then after the Reds tied it..Matt Stairs hit a huge two out pinch hit two run home run to take the lead..and Burgos got the save. Royals really been playing some good baseball lately....our record for June is 12-12 (pretty good for a team with a sub .250 winning percentage not too long ago) and our last ten games we are 8-2....all against the NL Central..so hopefully we can carry this on to the AL and keep improving our record. At least we've gotten to the .333 winning percentage now..hopefully we'll keep playing well.

you wanna check that score again? Sure it wasn't 9-8. Still, nice win. AL Central continued our dominance yesterday going 5 for 5, just like my boy Joe

nice, my pirates were doing ok there for awhile, but losing 12 straight (tying a franchise record) puts them at the .333 mark also (26-52). At least it's not so lonely at the bottom. Sweeping us musta got your guys on a role and the bleeding isn't gonna stop for mine with the White Sox followed by the Tigers coming to town.

Going from .800 ball to .300 ball..that'd be a pretty harsh drop. We'll see....

I still think the Indians are going to make a run. Their pitching is stabilizing a bit and their offense is just too good to not get hot. I'm keeping the faith...

...as for the Royals....looks like a good win tonight for the boys in blue. Bases loaded for the Cards in the bottom of the 9th, tie game, only one out...who do we bring in to save our asses?!?!?

St. Louis....meet Burgos. Ambiorix Burgos.

Back to back strikeouts to shut them down...awesome. He's been inconsistent a lot more than I'd like, but when he is on and can control his stuff somewhat..he's nasty...as seen tonight.

Tied 7-7 going into the bottom of the 10th. Have had two runs lost at home plate..so that sucks, but we could have this game won anyways, if not for our super-retarded manager. Bases loaded with two outs in the 8th inning, we have just taken a 7-6 lead...and DEAD TO ME (SS) comes to the plate. With Stairs, who hits righties VERY well on the bench AND Graffanino on the bench, who can play SS, does he make the extremely obvious move of letting Stairs hit? Hell no...our retard manager lets the guy with the sub .600 OPS hit with the game on the line.

F*cking retarded.
KowboyKoop
UNREAL.

The Cards loaded the bases against Luke Hudson in the 10th..and the Royals got out of it..including Eckstein trying a squeeze bunt with two strikes and fouling/striking out....holy sh*t what a game this has been.

What a f*cking game...Royals win 8-7 after escaping that incredible jam (bases loaded in 10th, noone out....) and Mark Teahen with the game-winning Homerun off of Izzy....wow. No game recap or anything tonight...I'm exhausted..this is surreal how we just won this game. What an amazing win..we didn't play that well..we lost two runs at the plate, our manager did whatever possible to force us to lose...but we found a way. Not used to that here in KC....pretty special win for us tonight. We are becoming a pretty decent team right now...don't know how long it will last....but I'm enjoying it now.

Congrats to Mark Redman, 2006 American League All-Star

:looks up at the bacon flying over my head:
KowboyKoop
Mark Redman is a poor choice..it likely should be Emil Brown...even though I dislike him, he has been hot lately.

However, in Redman's defense, he was injured for all of spring training and came back and pitched in KC without much work and thus, his first few starts were expectedly pretty bad due to not having a spring training..and then when he finally became 100% he has been pretty decent (example, in June he was 5-0 with a 3.68 ERA..pretty solid). So while he is not a great pick, I will say that he's been a lot better for us than his overall numbers indicate.

(That's right, Emil Brown has played his way off of my "DEAD TO ME" list...for now. His defense has been better (from horrid to mediocre) and he's had a hot bat lately. I still don't think he should be on our team...but he hasn't done anything extraordinarly stupid lately...so I'll tolerate him for a little while).

Box Score: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...minmlb_kcamlb_1

Game Recap: Really solid win for the Royals tonight, who continue to be a significantly better team and flat out a tough team to beat lately. Five solid innings for Gobble who finally gets a shot in the rotation, good balanced offense, sparked by the white hot David DeJesus (batting .490 over the past 11 games) who was 2 for 3 with two walks and a home run. Four shutout innings from Peralta and Dessens from the bullpen...good win. Should have won last night's game but had a real ugly inning to give it away, it's good to see that we can put that behind us and move on...whereas earlier in the year that loss might have sparked a losing streak. Good game.

About two weeks ago. Traded AAA pitcher J.P. Howell for him. Howell is a decent prospect...just average stuff really...could be a #4 or #5 guy in a year or so...it's a bit of a risky trade I think...if Gathright can learn to get on base more than it will be a good one as his speed is devastating....but he hasn't hit so far in his short career...though he hasn't really gotten regular playing time ever I don't think..so we'll see. At the very least he makes our outfield infinitely better with him roaming CF and forcing Emil Brown to not be in the field as much.
