Royals down 3-2 in bottom of 8th.....Sweeney hits a two run shot to make it 4-3. Regardless of whether we win or lose this game, we're clearly playing MUCH better baseball than we did last year..and that is encouraging. Except for a couple bad innings here and there so far...we've actually had some good pitching..especially Bautista today. We're getting better.

04/08/06 -- Game Recap
White Sox 3, Royals 4
Winning Pitcher: Dessens
Losing Pitcher: Pollite
Save: Ambiorix "Get the f*ck out of my batter's box" Burgos
Box Score:
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...chamlb_kcamlb_1Game Summary: Great game for Kansas City. Got six extremely good innings from 25 year old Denny Bautista. Allowed one hit and one run over six innings, though he did walk five. Very encouraging performance though..as he has pretty nasty stuff and can realistically be our ace if he stays healthy. From the 'pen, Luke Hudson was impressive, Sisco struggled a bit by not being able to keep the ball down, Elmer Dessens got out of a big jam with a double play and was awesome for the third straight outing...and to close it out, Ambiorix Burgos struck out the first two batters with perfect 97 mph fastballs on the outside corner at the knees...and retired the side in order for the save. Defensively, Minky bobbled a ball..but other than that it was pretty solid defense...including two double plays. Offensively, Vazquez pitched very well..but we were able to stratch out two runs off of him with a key double from Sanders...and then down 3-2 in the 8th..Sweeney hit a two run homerun after Grudz's third hit of the game to give KC the lead for good. Only 7 hits altogether..but we got the big hits when we needed them. All-around good ballgame....which makes three good ballgames we have played now out of four..which is very encouraging. Also...Shane Costa batted leadoff and despite only going 1-for-4, had three very good at-bats and looked very good today.
Keep on taking us for granted ChiSox...good luck trying to avoid the 1-5 start.
(Gotta get my bragging in while I can....)

everyone think they the champ and since they improved their lineup...they would go back to the world series..
that is sooo far off~ it was the most miracle sox season last year so anyone that believes in garland or garcia or contreras will actually see the truth this year..
and oh yeah...konerko sukks, so does podsednik~

KK's Prospect Watch:
Alex Gordon: Went 3-for-5 with a double in his last game at Wichita, which puts him at 7-for-16 in three games. Has shown good power and a great approach at the plate, as well as showing a good arm and good range to both his left and right.
J.P. Howell: In his first start of the year for Triple-A Omaha, he pitched six innings, giving up zero runs on two hits and no walks while striking out five. Got some time with Kansas City last year, but is now getting some much needed time in the minors. Has very good potential..and will probably be with KC after 15 or so starts in the minors.

Is this really the best 1B that the Royals can put into their lineup? Unless Graff has some awesome historical performance against Buehrle that I'm not aware of - either that, or he wants to get as many righties into the lineup as possible.

Well...first off...Graffy is a fairly solid utility player for us..and those numbers are just from one at-bat this year.......so let's not get too carried away about that.
Also...he is just giving Doug Mientkeiwicz a rest...he's our regular 1B.

Graffy is fine as a MI utility guy - but you usually want to reserve 1B for your sluggers. That being said, I just looked them both up on Baseball Prospectus - Graffy had a higher OPS last year than Mienky even adjusting for their ballparks.
Maybe Graffy should be the starter..

Minky has a much better glove than Graffy...that's why he starts over him..and Sweeney has been our regular 1B, and he's a pretty good hitter...but he's pretty injury prone..so he's just the DH for now. We're fine in that position for this year...only "slugger' we could put their is 38 year old Matt Stairs....and we don't need that.

Game Recap -- White Sox 3, Royals 1
Winning pitcher: Buehrle
Losing pitcher: Elarton
Box Score:
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...chamlb_kcamlb_1Game Summary-- Pretty good ballgame. Even though the Royals only scored one run...they actually hit a lot of balls pretty well, including three very well hit balls by Sweeney, that the ChiSox made some pretty good plays on, including two great plays by Crede to take away two ninth inning hits from us, two great running catches by Dye to take away two potential doubles, and two shots up the middle that deflected off the pitcher and right to an infielder...so that is six hits right there that were taken away by good defense and bad luck. However, Buehrle pitched pretty well..and our only run came on Sanders first homerun in the ninth. Defensively we played okay..a few real good plays but two errors by Berroa and Teahen. Scott Elarton pitched really well today, giving up only three runs on five hits in eight innings for his second straight good outing..yet resulting in his second loss. Even though we lost, we still played pretty well and didn't really beat ourselves..so I'm not disheartened by it at all. Nothing wrong with taking two of three from the ChiSox...hopefully we can keep playing well, and if we do keep playing like this, we'll be fine. We've faced five pretty good pitchers thus far (Rogers, Bonderman, Garland, Vazquez, and Buehrle) and came out 2-3 and played pretty well in four of those games..so at least we're progressing.

Lol..he's out of the game now. He is an altogether sh*tty pitcher...and quite frankly, noone has a clue as to why he is on our team. He has pitched horrible EVERY single time in spring and in the season.......once Redmen comes back..hopefully he'll be gone. Basically..he sucks and has no place on our staff...we have better arms than him...he needs to be gone.
REGGIE SANDERRRRRRRRSSSS. Homerun. 4-2 now. If we can just keep this game close and get to the Yankee pen...we'll have a fair chance at winning this game...and quite frankly I'd be happy with just winning one game in this series.

3-4 now....still batting. I'm tellin' ya....we're a better team...not gonna just lay down and go away after falling behind this year. Still a long way to go towards becoming a "good" team, but we're looking better and better...as long as we can just get rid of Joe Mays.
4-4 now with a base hit by John Buck. Jesus.....I am DEFINITELY not used to this kind of play from my team....I think I like it. Not that we are going to win...but just an entirely different feel to this year's team that last year's team.
Also, when we were down 3-1, I was watching ESPN News..and during their update on the game they said "well..the Yankees are up 3-1..it appears as if once again the Royals are struggling and it looks like the Yanks have this one all but wrapped up" IN THE SECOND INNING!??! DOUBLE PLAY TO GET OUT OF THE BASES LOADED ONE OUT JAM!! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!
On a pop fly to shallow left field too...don't know how Bernie Williams got doubled off on second..but I'll take it. They aren't even hitting the ball THAT well against us...we just keep walking them. If we can cut those down I actually think we'll be okay....but that's easier said than done.
After five innings..it is still 4-4. Mike Wood has thrown 2.1 scoreless innings...looked very good except for 2 walks. I'm telling you..New York had better not let us hang around for too long...once we get into their bullpen........business could really pick up.

This man has been rediculously good for us thus far. 7-4 Royals after 7.
You know things are going your way when Angel "swing like Vlad" Berroa draws a walk.
and now our usually reliable Andrew Sisco is in the process of blowing our lead. Just great......two walks and a ground ball single and the bases are loaded with no outs in the 8th. Well....we were playing great up until this point.

The Yanks didn't win it. The Royals handed them the game. We hit better than them, and we played defense better than them, and we ran the bases better than them, and even when we threw strikes...we pitched better than them. The one thing we did wrong was walk too them.....but we went ALL OUT on that f*cking screwup. Mays and Sisco were ATROCIOUS with their control. The Yanks probably only hit six or seven balls well..but with all the free runners we gave them...those few well-hit balls cost us big time.

Winning Pitcher: Scott Proctor
Losing Pitcher: Andrew Sisco

Box Score:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/...7_boxscore.htmlGame Recap: SUCH a disappointing ending...but still encouraging at the same time. Joe Mays and Andrew Sisco were atrocious...as all the walks they gave up cost us the game. However, our offense was great from top to bottom except for Mike Sweeney, and our defense and baserunning were fine. We outplayed the Yankees in their home opener in every aspect of the game and scared the sh*t out of them...but then Sisco decided to come in and walk the bases loaded and it was over from there. In their five run inning, they only had two well hit balls altogether..but got five runs thanks to us just handing them baserunners. That is flat out inexcusable. Elmer Dessens and Mike Wood (who will be our fifth starter on Saturday at Tampa Bay) were incredibly good..and once again the offense was very good......the team is clearly a much better team and with a lot of talent in the minors...we're definitely going in the right direction...but this would have been a HUGE win for us..so pretty disappointing in the short term. Hopefully we can get one win in this series though. Tomorrow's a new day.....

John Kruk on today's game...
"New York sent a message to Kansas City today. They said 'you aren't coming into our house and winning.'"
Yeah...some "message" they sent us there. Give them nine walks and a three run lead to start with and they'll pitch horribly and play a bad game in general and hit maybe six balls well all game and barely beat a team that they clearly overmatch...oh boy...you're right, New York was awesomely dominant today...the way they barely won despite Joe Mays and Andrew Sisco practically begging to give the game away...lol.
It is extremely obvious that the guys at ESPN did nothing more than look at the final score at the end of the game and just assume that the Yankees were "dominant." They won the game, but they didn't beat us...I wasn't all that impressed with them quite frankly....we gave them all their offense today. If we don't walk SOOO many guys they only score three runs at best.

Did you honestly expect them to say something bad about the Yankees? That's why I have pretty much given up on ESPN. I really hope that MLB does that the NFL and the NBA did and create a baseball only television network, and place it somewhere else besides New York.

No, I was really just hoping someone would give enough of a sh*t to throw a compliment the Royals way for actually playing them tough on their Opening Day ANDDD taking two of three from Chicago over the weekend. I don't recall one positive comment about any of our games this year so far, even though we clearly outplayed and scared the sh*t out of the Yanks today.

Sportscenter was a little more complimentary.
If the Royals are improved and keep playing teams tough, taking series from stronger teams, then people take notice. They'll become a story and get the attention they deserve. Until then, most will be reluctant to go against conventional wisdom.

Yeah..the game is on ESPN today....but OOPPPPSSS....I live in "Cardinals country" or some sh*t like that and we're not allowed to see Royals games on TV....so I can't watch it. F*cking bullsh*t.
Anyways, yeah..3-0 after Top of 1st. We ain't a great team...but we're gonna play anyone tough this year and steal our share of wins.

And two leadoff walks. Just great. Yank Affeldt now. He's done. Mark it. Get Elmer Dessens in there and let him throw 9 innings..he seems to be the only one right now that realizes that it is okay to throw a strikes and allow them to hit the ball.
Told you. Affeldt is flat out atrocious. Good stuff with zero clue how to pitch..doesn't have the mindset to be here. Get him off the team.

....and its 3-3.
does affeldt even have stuff? i've never seen it. he doesn't throw hard and his location is crap. not a good combo.
at least dessens' name is elmer, and thats sweet.

He has a VERY good 12-to-6 curve...but he falls behind to every batter that he doesn't get to use it that much. Trust me, he has very good stuff...just no ability to pitch a good ballgame and thinks it isn't that big of a deal to fall behind 2-0 to every single hitter. He has SAID this in the past...don't know why he hasn't learned otherwise and why we allow him to do it over and over.

Finally Offeldt is out after 3 1/3 pitched..giving up six runs. If he would just throw some f*cking strikes the damage wouldn't have been that bad..two or three runs probably and a WAY less pitch count. It seems as if he will never learn....GOD I can't wait until Mark Redmen comes back and replaces one of these douches (hopefully Mays).
Royals offense continues to put pressure on them though...RBI doubles by Grudz and Minky make it 6-5 in Top 5th.....this would never have happened last year...so I am encouraged by that...but we need some pitchers to just throw strikes and pitch "decent," instead of giving high-octanc offenses free baserunners every single inning.
