At the beginning of this thread you predicted a fourth place finish. Sadly that's very possible with how my Twinkies are doing.
And concerning the Twins castaways. How has Mientkiewicz been doing this year. He was always a fan favorite up here. Oh yeah, haha you got stuck with Mays

With the way we are hitting right now...there is zero chance of us getting 4th place this year. Our pitching has been pretty decent lately...but our hitting has been cartoonishly bad....I mean, we're getting pretty unlucky and that, combined with just flat out being a crappy offensive team, is just a bad combination.
Mientkiewicz has been okay for us, his defense has been good....and his offense hasn't been nearly as bad as others on our team..so I can't complain about him, but he'll be gone before next season.
As for Joe Mays...he has single handedly thrown away at least 3 games and without him we are a way better team, but for whatever retarded reason...we keep letting him pitch. (To be fair...we've had a TONNNNNNNNNN of injuries this year so far....so that doesn't help.)
Basically, besides getting fairly decent pitching over the past two weeks or so (which is a good encouraging sign), every possible thing that can go wrong has gone wrong.

Hey, I know how it goes. We are supposed to have one of the best pitching staffs in the AL, but so far they have been the worst. I'm praying that they can reach their potential.
And I am hoping that you guys can continue your poor hitting till Thurs night. We'll see if you can come away from the Twin's football stadium with a split

The first game is a guaranteed loss...as we have Joe Mays. I actually hope he gives up like, 12 runs early just so our retard GM/manager will have no choice but to get rid of him. In game 2 of the series, we'll have a chance. I'd be more than happy with a split...

Yeah, I like him as a journalist, I just never put too much stock into his actual opinions. He is pretty funny.
Also, I believe I've at least hinted at the fact that a lot of our current players suck and need to get out of here....so yeah, they suck pretty badly right now. Hopefully, with Joe Mays pitching tonight, he'll pitch so badly that our retard GM will have no choice but to ship him out and maybe he'll throw in a bonus and resign as well.
Edit: But with the pitching for the most part getting better, I still hold out hope that when a lot of our prospects get here, we can turn the corner a little bit.

Pitching Line tonight:
Mays: 3.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 2 ER (Angel Berroa error), 0 BB, 1 K. (10.27 ERA)
Everyone else (Gobble, who should have started this game, Wood, and Burgos): 4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Man...our pitching staff right now is actually pretty decent....but Joe Mays is f*cking our numbers up SO badly. Our offense is pathetic right now..but at least the pitching is coming around...
I swear to God..I don't know what possible reason (besides being retarded) that Baird can have for sticking with Mays...when Gobble is clearly a WAYYYYY better pitcher right now and is a starter, not a reliever...just no excuse for it.

I can't watch the games, so I don't get to see his stuff...but I don't think him pitching against our current lineup really says much....it's pretty pathetic right now....if Jimmy Gobble had started the game for us instead of Mays..this would've been a close and winnable game for us easy.
05/03/06--Kansas City Royals 1, Twins 6
Game Recap:
Joe Mays pitched and gave up 6 runs. That is the reason we lost.
Bullpen was 1 hit away from perfect over 4.2 innngs after he left. Offense was pathetic because Bell refuses to give Esteban German more playing time, despite the fact that he is very fast, has great plate discipline..and..and..uh..oh yeah, he's hitting over .500 and his OPS is nearly 1.200. Also, big hitting prospect Justin Huber was called up to replace the injured Sweeney as DH.....but no, let's not put him as DH..let's put Matt Stairs in there. Idiot. Also, Angel Berroa is just atrocious....I could get him out.

I don't know......but at least he is the only pitcher on our staff currently who is pitching "bad." Everyone else is AT LEAST pitching decent..if not better...hopefully Baird will get the hint........since it is painfully obvious that Gobble is pitching drastically better than ever and should be starting..but based on his past decisions....who really knows. KowboyKoop's "DEAD TO ME" List
New to this thread is my "DEAD TO ME" list, ala the Colbert Report. Players on this list will no longer have their names published in my posts (except for on the actual list), as they are so horrible that they no longer deserve a spot on the team.
1. Emil Brown--an absolutely atrocious defensive left-fielder, who is hitting horribly this year and gives our team nothing whatsoever. Aaron Guiel, who has good MLB numbers except for one period where he had vision problems, should CLEARLY be in his spot, but of course Baird is too blind to see this
2. Angel Berroa--just a retarded player. Can't hit or take a walk whatsoever. Has momentary flashes of brilliance, but for the most part is a powerless non-contact freeswinger with the inability to take a pitch..and makes a ton of fielding and baserunning mistakes, many of which don't show up in the boxscore, but which do cost us games over and over again.
3. Joe Mays--do I really need to explain this one? Mays has zero business being on the team whatsoever.

ROYALS WIN!!! WOOHOO
I'd like to take a minute to discuss Ambiorix Burgos. He pitched a perfect 9th for the save in our 1-0 win over the Twins tonight. This kid is flat out disgusting. I guarantee you that if he were on just about any other team in the Majors, he'd be regarded as one of the better/best young bullpen arms in the game...but since he's in KC, he gets nothing and everyone just thinks that we don't have any good pitchers. Burgos had a pretty good rookie year for us last year, with a 3.98 ERA for the entire year pitching in a lot of key situations, including a little closing, and so far this year has 3 saves and a 2.19 ERA....oh yeah, and he JUST turned 22 less than a couple weeks ago. I ain't saying he's a better young arm than a Papelbon..but I ain't saying he is worse either...kid has disgusting stuff...but noone will ever know until our offense gets better.
05/04/06-- Royals 1, Twins 0
Winning Pitcher: Affeldt (2-2, 4.94 ERA)
Losing Pitcher: Silva (1-5, 8.59 ERA)
Box Score:
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...kcamlb_minmlb_1Game Recap: Finally got a road win. Offense was atrocious again, leaving a lot of runners on base, but one run was good enough on this day. Affeldt was great when he pounded the zone, but he walked six and got his pitch count too high and only was able to go five innings. Can't say he pitched poorly, b/c when he threw strikes he kept hitters off balance pretty well, but he's gotta attack batters better, which he had been doing a good job of lately. The bullpen, without Luke Hudson (Thank God) was magnificent, with Peralta working a great 6th, Elmer Dessens working two magnificent innings, and Ambiorix "Get the f*ck out of my batter's box" Burgos closing it out....Good to get a road win and once again, we get pretty solid pitching. Bell is having a meeting soon to determine DEAD TO ME's (SP) fate...so hopefully he will be gone and we can FINALLY have an all-around decent pitching staff. The bullpen was cleansed of it's lone cancer in Luke Hudson..so hopefully our starting rotation can be cleansed of its lone cancer. The offense has GOT to get better though...which means we need to get rid of some hacks in their as well..including DEAD TO ME (SS) and DEAD TO ME (LF).

I ain't saying we have a "great" pitching staff...but all of our guys have been pitching much better lately outside of Luke Hudson and DEAD TO ME (SP). I am not getting too high on them, but they've been decent lately...for example...you guys gave up 33 to Detroit over 3 games..we gave up only 7 over 2 games...so it's been better over the past 11 games...

Thursday, May 4th, 2006, 7:47 PM
To add onto my point that our pitching is getting pretty decent, allow me to say this. We have had three pitchers who have been ATROCIOUS for us this year, and none of them had ANY business being on this team whatsoever. Those three pitchers are Luke Hudson (who kept the much more deserving Steve Andrade off the staff), Steve Stemle (who kept the much more deserving Joel Peralta off the staff), and DEAD TO ME (SP). Stemle and Hudson have both been removed (likely for good) and DEAD TO ME is pretty close to being gone. Combined, those three have a 10.53 ERA over 41 IP..pretty atrcocious. For the rest of our staff, we have 86 ER over 181 IP...a 4.16 ERA..which would currently be good for 5th in the AL, .01 behind the Chicago White Sox and good for 8th in the entire MLB. Now, while I am not saying that our pitching staff is now a "good" pitching staff that is incredibly dependable already, I think it is pretty clear that our arms have a little more potential than it may seem from the outside...as once we get rid of the final cancer (DEAD TO ME) and get back Grienke and Bautista.....it is encouraging.

He did struggle with control a bit last year and in his first couple games, but lately he's been attacking hitters much better...and his stuff is especially nasty when he gets ahead of hitters, so yeah, if he can work on getting ahead of hitters a little better....he'll be able to ascend to the next level...he's got the mentality to be dominant though....but until KC gets a good offense everyone else will just dismiss him as "another horrible KC pitcher who doesn't belong in the big leagues."

Burgos should stay the closer even after MacDougal comes back - he just doesn't get the save opportunities so he flies under the radar.
Looks like Sweeney might be calling it a career after this year - too bad that he was so injury prone.

Yes, Burgos should be our close and we should look to trade MacDougal if he is healthy later on..as he IS a pretty good arm when he has his control under wraps, which he did pretty well last year.
As for Sweeney, I think the retirement talks for him are pretty premature...he isn't seriously considering it YET, he just said that he might consider it if he can't figure out how to stay healthy in the future...but yeah, I like him a lot and he's a great hitter when healthy, but I can't say I'd be THAT disappointed to see him go...he's got a big contract that we could use some money from..and he's just been too injured lately for him to be worth all the money.
As for Huber, he has a great bat but needs work defensively at 1B, as he is a converted catcher. He'll PROBABLY be headed back to Triple A Omaha once DeJesus comes back in a week or so (maybe), but when he comes back up in September, he should be here for good. He's got an OPS of over 1.000 (I think) with an OBP over .400 and 7 HR so far this year..and I believe he led the Texas League (AA) in hitting last year with a .342 batting average (all this is from memory, so I may be a little off), so he is a pretty highly regarded bat and is our 1B of the future starting in 2007, unless some disastrous injury hits him....which isn't out of the question with our luck these days.....but yeah he's a pretty bright prospect for us, one of many who will hopefully be ready to start in 2007. (Blanco, Gordon, Butler, Howell.....)

They do suck, noone said they didn't. Noone said this was a great victory that makes us a great team or anything, but it's a win and it's good to get one. The pitching numbers I showed were for the entire season, including 6 games against your ChiSox in which we've given up 5 runs a game, which isn't TOO bad...
but about the pitching numbers I showed, if you take out our pitching cancers, Stemle, Hudson, and DEAD TO ME (SP), then our ERA in 6 games against your White Sox is 3.80. So again, my point remains the same; except for those pitching cancers, two of which are gone and the other is about ready to be gone, our pitching staff has been fairly decent, and this turns out to be true against ALL the teams we've faced this year, not just light hitting teams such as the Twins. It is our offense that has been truly pathetic so far this year, at least the pitching is improving big time over previous years so far.

DEAD TO ME (SP) HAS BEEN PULLED FROM THE ROTATION!!!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is all excellent news, Teahen has flat out looked clueless at the plate, German has looked awesome, DEAD TO ME has been dreadful, and Guiel has deserved to be on this team for the past three years........these are all incredible moves. More details to come.

and of course my good friends on the KC message boards are complaining about Teahen getting sent down and German getting more playing time...I guess these numbnuts don't think that a guy who can get on base alot, work a lot of counts, and run the bases well and steal a lot of bases is useful....gotta get that .200 hitter with little power and zero plate discipline more at-bats.....f*cking idiots.
I'm excited to see what our new lineup will be once all the moves go into effect.

1st time through the lineup...Royals putting some good swings on the ball...3 hits and a walk..including...*gasp* ANOTHER walk by Esteban German...to move his OBP above .600.....about time this guy gets in our starting lineup at the infield.

Aaron Guiel with the double..1-2 so far...currently on 2nd base.
0-0 Top 4th.
LOL..and he makes a baserunning mistake....sh*t.
5 stranded runners through 4 innings for KC.....

oooohhhhhh......strike 3 looking on Thome there with runner on 3rd with 1 out..big K there.
Still gotta work to Konerko though...equally as dangerous...
..and Elarton gets out of it......gets around the leadoff double by retiring both Thome and Konerko with the runner on third with one out....good stuff from most of our pitching staff lately...

0-0, Bottom 6th.
Both pitchers throwing well..but KC has left their share of runners on base....Elarton's only given up two hits and zero walks through 5.1 IP...and one of those hits was a bunt single, so he's been pretty sharp and fairly efficient thus far.
Through 6 now, 0-0 score..
Elarton with only 2 baserunners allowed through 6 IP on 87 pitches.....looks like another pretty good start from our pitchers thus far....just gotta get that big hit on offense....might be able to steal one....probably not, but we'll see.
wooohooo...RBI single by Esteban German...1-0 Royals Top 7. German is 1-2 tonight with a walk and the RBI.....kid needs to be starting..and thank god that now he is our starting 3B for a little while at least....
Blah....leadoff HR for Iguchi.....1-1 now...and Elarton is done.......
Final Line for Elarton...6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO.....can't complain about that too much, let's just hope Sisco can keep it that way.
I nominate Scott Elarton as the best 0-4 pitcher in baseball....lol. ERA is 3.86 after holding an extremely powerful offense to one run on three hits.
That's okay though....keep them to 1....
Sisco gets Thome, Konerko, and A.J. 1-2-3. Nice job once again from our very solid young leftie.

1-1, Bottom 8th.
Elmer Dessens on to try and keep it that way........and Crede takes him deep on the first pitch......guess he can't throw a perfect inning every single time.....sh*t. That's ballgame....zero chance we can score any runs in the 9th. Oh well....
8 innings down....2-1 ChiSox....Jenks on for the save....ballgame is essentially over....but maybe Jenks will be wild and give us a bunch of walks..that's our only chance with Berroa up in the following inning....
Okay...Jenks not coming on for the save....still in the bullpen.
Guiel draws a leadoff walk!! Rare to see a Royal hitter work a count full and spoil some pitches and draw a walk.......just not our "style" I guess.
Now Jenks is coming in to face DEAD TO ME, Buck, and German.......so pretty much there is already one out with the runner unable to advance, since DEAD TO ME is pretty much a lock to strikeout.....or ground into the double play.....
OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!
Berroa executes the sacrifice bunt!!!!
Runner on 2nd with one out now..base hit ties the game...maybe we have a tiny chance after all...
and Graffanino pinch-hitting for the 2-for-3 good fastball hitting Buck.......WTF!?!??!?
2-0 though on Graffy so far...
3-0
3-1....at least we are mounting somewhat of a threat to tie it...it's more than I expected.
3-2....borderline call......to say the least it seems...
BALL FOUR!!
1st and 2nd with one out for my man Esteban German...come on baby!!!
GERMAN WITH THE BASE HIT!!!!!!!! TIE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO AHEAD RUN ON 3RD!!!!!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ESTEBAN GERMAN IS MY HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said this guy needs to be in our lineup more often...but NOOOOOOOOOOO noone listened to me....WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2-2 now, runners on 1st and 3rd, one out...let's get that run in baby!!
Kerry Robinson up now.
1-1 count...
foul ball...1-2 now...come on Robinson..just don't strikeout!!
GROUND BALL BASE HIT ROYALS UP 3-2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT THE F*CK IS GOING ON HERE!?!??!?!??!?!?
I guess this is what a little German and Guiel in your lineup will do for you.....not over yet though...top of lineup due up for Chicago......
Robinson caught stealing.....
runner on 2nd, two outs....2-0 to Mark Grudzielanek
STAIRS WITH THE BASES LOADES HIT!!!! 5-2 ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Inning over....5-2 Royals
Top of lineup due up for Chicago...Podsednik, Iguchi, and Thome.
....and the entity known as Ambiorix Burgos in on the hill...for God's sake PLEASE shut this one down quickly...NO WALKS!!!
Podsednik hits a ground ball double to lead off.....sh*t....I have a bad feeling about this sh*t..........it would be SOOOOOOO our luck to make that great comeback and then blow it.....
Iguchi....STRIKES OUT!
1 down
Now Thome.....hits a homerun...jesus christ...I KNEW this was going to happen.....just wow..
5-4 Royals still...but I don't think we are going to win....
and Konerko with a broken bat bloop single to center......wow...our team just CAN NOT get over the hump and get these big wins........they are going to win, it's inevitable...........just the perfectly bad time for Burgos to have his one bad outing....
we're gonna lose..I'm saying it now before it actually happens...just wow.
Pierzynski flies out to left......
runner on 1st, two outs, up by one. We still have a chance...but only a 1% chance......
PLEASE GET THIS OUT!
Crede now up..........with an infield single to German...HOLY SH*T!!!!!!!!!!
Chicago is going to win...it's inevitable
Rob Mackowiak now the (hero) batter........
And Mackowiak FLIES OUT TO CENTER!!! ROYALS WIN!! ROYALS WIN!!!!!!!!! I AM GOING TO GO THROW UP NOW!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS SO SICK!!!!!!!!!!!

05/05/06--Royals 5, White Sox 4
Winning Pitcher: Dessens (2-1, 2.70)
Losing Pitcher: Jenks (1-1,4.61)
Box Score:
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...kcamlb_chamlb_1Game Recap: GREAT win for us in takng the first game of this series at Chicago. The end was pretty sickening, as Burgos was shaky and gave up a two run homerun to Thome, but to his credit he bounced back and still got the job done, even working around a bloop single and infield single after that...so it was pretty shaky and pretty sick, but he got the job done. The offense was better, staging a nice comeback fueled by four walks in the 9th inning, and German was great, going 2 for 3 with a BB and 2 RBI. Also, newcomer Aaron Guiel (who should have been here all year and SHOULD be starting over DEAD TO ME (LF)) was 1 for 3 with a leadoff walk in the 9th inning to start the rally. So, German and Guiel really jump-started our offense tonight with some much needed speed and plate discipline. Elarton was great for 6+ innings, only giving up one run on three hits and zero walks, so he was great. Sisco worked a scoreless inning, Dessens gave up one hit, a homerun, to give the Sox the 2-1 lead, but benefitted by picking up the W. Bottom line, the offense finally put some things together and the pitching was once again pretty solid for us, as their extremely powerful lineup is gonna score their runs no matter who is on the mound...so I can't complain about giving up 4 runs to that lineup.

Yeah, and then we tried to give it right back..lol. I guess we did the worst job of giving the game away though....that's why we won tonight. Pretty sick 9th inning both ways though..but it sure was nice to see us draw some walks for a change...we NEVER do that.....tomorrow's game should be good too, Hernandez has looked great in his first two starts, so we'll see....Vazquez has pitched well against us, so it could be a similar game to today's.

As long as Sweeney doesn't suddenly pop off the DL tomorrow then I think Vazquez will let up 2 runs max. It depends on the bullpen again.

That wouldn't surprise me at all...but with German and Guiel hopefully in the lineup, maybe our offense will at least be more disciplined and MIGHT be able to scratch out a couple...rather than just striking out or grounding out on the first pitch every single time....

6-0 Sox in the 5th....Hernandez wasn't great today for us, but he only walked one and the Sox had a lot of groundballs and fly balls find holes today, so nothing too horrible, sometimes good hitters just get their hits.
As for our offense.........yeah.....pathetic so far. Vazquez is perfect through five. He owns us.
