Worst Franchise: Royals

While I think that things are getting better in terms of having a lot of talent in the minor leagues that is getting pretty close to breaking through to the Big Leagues and making this team much better, I can't say I disagree too much with their assessment. Our owner and GM have been pretty cheap/stupid in the past and continue to do dumb things, such as giving Joe Mays all the chances in the world when it's obvious his arm is dead, and by keeping guys like Steve Stemle, who is rediculously horrid, in the bullpen over a proven entity in Joel Peralta. With guys such as J.P. Howell, Alex Gordon, Justin Huber, Billy Butler, Andres Blanco, Mitch Maier, and Angel Sanchez showing themselves to be closer and closer to the MLB level (and Grienke and Runelvyz Hernandez can be thrown in this group too)...things will get better. However, we obviously expected to better so far this year, and thus far we haven't. Things are looking a lot better overall this year than last year, though so far it hasn't shown in terms of wins and losses. I was expecting/hoping to be a better team this year, and it still can happen, but realistically, I am just hoping we follow through with our plan to trade off Reggie Sanders, Grudz, and others for some MLB ready starting pitching come trading deadline time and then call up all of our prospects to get them prepared to be starters next year. In that plan, we are going well so far...but of course a few more wins this year would be nice as well..and that isn't going so well. So I would say we've been a pretty horribly run franchise the past 8-10 years or so, but I think we are finally getting better.

Yeah but how can they rate Kansas City below Tampa Bay? That just doesn't make sense.

Tampa Bay is getting a little better. They have a lot of good young offensive players...only one decent pitcher though. Really though.....the reason we are #1 is just b/c we are in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. If Tampa Bay were in that streak...they'd be #1...if it were football season and the Cardinals were 1-7...they'd be #1 worst....you get the idea. I don't really put too much stock into what ESPN says really......they generally don't have a clue. They RAVE about other team's prospects all the time as a sign of other organizations being good....but I don't recall them saying a word EVER about Alex Gordon and Justin Huber and others when talking about our minor league system.

The two NFL teams they suggested on the main page were the Cardinals and...the Lions?????? Because, you know, the Lions have suffered for so long and didn't have a solid run with Barry Sanders or anything.

ESPN had, has, and will always have a bunch of what-have-you-done-for-me-lately idiots on their staff. Hell, after making the playoffs for 20 straight years, the Blazers have missed the last three postseasons...they must be the worst franchise in the NBA too.

The Oakland A's didn't make the playoffs last year. THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WORST FRANCHISE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah...ESPN is basically kinda retarded. They have some okay stuff...and I watch PTI and all that a good bit......but most opinions that come from that network are just kinda clueless/ignorant. Unless it is about a New York/Boston market or some other huge market..it seems as if they mostly just look at the final score/record and look at nothing else about a team and just say "sucks", "sucks," "good," "sucks," "horrible," and so on and so on.

Seriously, KC had a winning season like 3 years ago. Tampa Bay has never had one. They also suggest Detroit is one of the worst franchises around, and yet people ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE pick Detroit to make a run at the playoffs.

Yeah, it's retarded.

Do I think our franchise has made a lot of dumb mistakes in the past 6-8 years? Yes.

Do I think our GM should be fired? Yes, I would be in favor of that.

Do I think we are THE worst franchise in sports. No.

Also, Detroit isn't making the playoffs....or really get even close to it. Cleveland and Chicago are WAY too strong in their own division.

Don't worry, this thread will be alive until the end of the season. I never claimed the Royals were gonna be a great contending team this year, I am just interested in seeing the organization as a whole progress, and even though we're playing extremely sh*tty right now, we are going in the right direction in terms of our youth (mostly in the minors) getting better. Of course I would like to win more games, but really, all I want this season is for our young players of the future getting better.

Winning Pitcher: Graves
Losing Pitcher: Dessens

Box Score: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...clemlb_kcamlb_1

Game Recap: Still a loss, but at least our offense showed some signs of life with 5 runs and 14 hits (including four by Sweeney...finally) and everyone pitched pretty well except for Elmer Dessens...who turned a 3-3 tie in the 7th to a 6-3 disadvantage. At least in this game it felt like we had a chance the entire game..hopefully we can at least keep playing competitive games...I don't really care about our record as long as we don't beat ourselves over and over with walks and stupid plays..and at least for today we did not do that.

Box Score: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...clemlb_kcamlb_1

Game Recap: Great game tonight, finally. We've been playing a bit better the past few days, but it's about time we picked up a win. Offense was outstanding, lots of hits, drew some walks, and got a lot of big timely hits to score 11 runs on 11 hits. Mays started and actually threw four outstanding innings, before faltering in the fifth and giving up 4 runs and giving way to long-reliever Mike Wood. Wood then proceeded to take it the rest of the way in good fashion, only giving up one unearned run. Hopefully Mays can build off his good innings and get better and maintain longer, and hopefully we can learn from only walking two batters total tonight and cut down the walks permanently....as we only had one bad inning. Hopefully we can win tommorow's game and start to climp back up in the standings a bit (record-wise).

C John Buck (14 G, .242 BA, .316 OBP, 0 HR, 4 RBI, .679 OPS)

KK's Prospects:

Alex Gordon: Through 16 games for Double-A Wichita is batting .328 with a .405 OBP and a .999 OPS. Has 3 homeruns and 7 RBI. Continues to look very strong on both offense and defense, and is on pace for a September callup.

Billy Butler: Through 16 games for Double-A Wichita, is batting .310 with a .333 OBP and an OPS of .840. Has 3 homeruns and 8 RBI. Just turned twenty years old and already has what is close to an MLB-level bat, needs to get better defensively in left field...will likely also be a September callup.

Angel Sanchez: Through 14 games for Double-A Wichita, the shortstop is batting .327 with an OBP of .429 and an OPS of .890. Has 1 homerun and 8 RBI. Known for his good glove and weaker bat, he has had 7 errors already, yet is hitting much better. A good performance could make him trade bait for a good arm, as I don't think he has much chance at overtaking Andres Blanco for the future MLB shortstop position.

Justin Huber: Through 17 games for Triple-A Omaha, is hitting .352 with an OBP of .470 and an OPS of 1.173. Has 6 homeruns and 8 RBI. The only concern with Huber is his defense at first base....but he'll be brought up soon more than likely. He's ready.

Andres Blanco: Through 17 games for Triple-A Omaha, is hitting .362 with an OBP of .383 and an OPS of .883. Has 1 home run and 13 RBI. Known for his Gold Glove caliber fielding at shortstop, his hitting has been a pleasent surprise, and if he keeps it up, could seriously challenge Angel Berroa for the starting shortstop position in KC next year.

04/23/06 -- Cleveland 1, Kansas City 5

Winning Pitcher: Affeldt (1-2, 6.27)
Losing Pitcher: Johnson (2-1, 2.81)

Box Score: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...clemlb_kcamlb_1

Game Recap: Great victory today to win the series. Affeldt pitched a great 5.1 innings, except that he fell behind too many hitters and drove his pitch count up too fast...but still only had two walks. After him, Dessens was magnificent for a couple innings, Sisco got his out, and Burgos faced the minimum in the 9th. Offensively, pretty good effort, with German looking good at the plate again, getting on base twice and scoring from first on a double by Buck. Also, Berroa had a 4 for 4 day and Graffanino was 3 for 4. On the other side, Sweeney and Grudz and Costa, our top three in the lineup, only went 1 for 12. Costa is still hitting .286 though with 3 HR's, so he is starting to make a bid for a full-time starting job...perhaps replacing Brown in LF. Hopefully with the Twins coming to town for three games, we can win another series against a division opponent, as they have looked pretty beatable so far this season.

In my MVP 2005 xbox game Andres Blanco is the starting shortstop for the Red Sox, and is pretty sick. He hits like .325 with maybe 20 homers and 20 steals a season. It's like 2011 or something at this point.

Just struggling..I don't really know. He's had a ton of line drives hit right at infielders and deep fly balls caught on the warning track..so maybe some bad luck too....but he's just in a slump. He'll snap out eventually...I'm not really worried about it.

Pretty shaky first inning from Lohse..but he escaped. If Elarton struggles with control again...it could turn out to be a slugfest.

Losing Pitcher--Hudson (0-2, 7.00)

Box Score: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/boxscor...minmlb_kcamlb_1

Game Recap: Pretty frustrating game today. Got a great outing from Elarton, throwing seven shutout innings, but Hudson from the bullpen let in two to blow it. Other than him, great pitching the entire game. Offensively, we mounted offensive threats in seven of nine innings, so that's pretty encouraging, but we couldn't pick up the big hit whatsoever, led by Sanders, who was 0 for 5 with 3 strikeouts and 8 runners left on base. Much rather lose a well-played 2-1 ballgame though than a sloppy game with bad pitching. Been playing much better the past four games, and I still say we are a much better team than last year and getting better, but that 4-14 record is saying otherwise for now. We're getting better though, just need to keep getting good pitching, as we've only given up 22 runs over the past 6 games....so that 3.60 ERA over that span is much better than it has been.

The return of Runelvyz "Fat" Hernandez is going pretty well so far...four scoreless innings, one hit and no walks. Retired 12 in a row after a leadoff single. Very unexpected strong stuff thus far....we've actually been getting some good starting pitching the past few games, nice to see.

Going into the Bottom of the 7th, 3-1 Royals.

Elvis is looking INCREDIBLE tonight...only one run given up on 3(?) hits and zero walks......just an awesome and unexpected start from him....he's starting to look like the early 2003 Runelvyz.....that'd be nice to have for an entire year.

Let's see if we can hold onto this lead....encouraging stuff from our pitchers the last few days though...that's better than losing with horrible pitching.

Game Recap: Extremely great game tonight. Winning routs are great, but these are the games we've fallen short in over the past few years, and it is awful nice to get a close win in a well-pitched, well played game. Game was very similar to last night's game. In Hernandez's first start of the year, he was flat out awesome. Not that many strikeouts (1), but he just pounded the zone with fastballs and used a ton of well-times off-speed pitches to keep the hitters off balance for seven innings, giving up one run on two hits and most importantly, zero walks. Offense wasn't "great," but we scratched out three runs with a few big hits, which we couldn't do yesterday, so they got the job done. Great pitching, including a save from Burgos, timely hitting, and great defense (including a spectacular diving catch from Mientkiewicz) is a great way to win a ballgame. As I've said before, we are a much better team than last year, even though our record doesn't currently reflect that. 3-2 over our last five games, so hopefully we can keep playing well and just play some .500 ball for a little while.

Game Recap: Fairly ugly game today, but I guess we were due for one after playing much better for the past week or so. Horrible start for Redmen, but as a whole, our pitching was okay outside of that one horrible inning. The bullpen at least kept it respectable and did okay after Redmen bombed out of the game in the 2nd. Offense was decent, which isn't too bad against Santana. Defense was pretty horrible today, which combined with a lot of walks in the early part of the game and a lot of ground balls that found holes for the Twins resulted in too big of an early hole. Still a better game than the losses during our 11-game losing streak though, so nothing to get too down about. Hopefully Redmen can bounce back in his next outing and hopefully Reggie Sanders can break out of his God-awful hitting slump....on the bright side, Esteban German was good offensively and Sweeney had a couple hits and Shane Costa continues to look great.

God I hate ESPN.

Last night, Runelvyz Hernandez two-hits the Twins over seven innings, giving up only a solo HR. 7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER. Hardly any mention whatsoever anywhere.

Today, Santana gives up THREE runs over 8 innings against us and all over ESPN it's "oh, Santana dominated the Royals today," and "Santana shuts down the Royals" and "the Royals had no chance against Santana today," and blah blah blah.

What bullsh*t. Since when is giving up THREE runs "completely dominating" some team. Since when is that an "outstanding" performance. Yeah, he pitched well today, but he wasn't "lights out' like they are saying....but I guess they have to manufacture all the Royals putdowns that they can. Funny they don't even care to mention that in the previous 7 games before today's, our team ERA was 2.66 (approximately) or anything like that. Can't bother to mention that one of our better pitchers returned last night and "dominanted" MUCH more so than Santana did. Wouldn't want to give up any props whatsoever when things are clearly getting better.

I'm done.

I can say I know how you feel, like last year.
I am surprised the Sox haven't been on espn more after their title. Boston is still on espn almost every day... I agree, Hernandez pitched a good game but today Santana got the recognition... There's not much you can do. Sorry

Yeah, ESPN is pretty much all about Boston and New York...pretty disgusting.

And it's not like I expect them to go nuts about Hernandez's performance, I mean, it was good and worth mention, but nothing too extraordinary, but just after watching Baseball Tonight, it's like Santana's performance today was the most dominant three run given up performance in the history of mankind...I mean...if he was SOOOOO dominant against our SOOOOO bad offense..then why did Angel Berroa take him deep?? And how did he end up just ONE run away from not even registering a quality start!??!?! Just retarded. I can handle them making their jokes about us, but when they gotta go to these lengths to try and make us look bad...it's just stupid.

whoa, if I throw different pitches at different places, the batter won't know what to expect! why didn't I think of this before??

I found parts of it funny like the above part.
