Let the Cy Young talk begin. I knew he was on when he gave up that leadoff triple and stranded him at 3rd. He still doesn't seem like he's had his best stuff so far this year... but it's good enough!
KowboyKoop
Somebody better start talking about Zack Greinke. The changeup that he refined in ST has been spectacular....makes his FB even better. The quality of his stuff hasn't been the best he's ever had (though it's clearly been very good), but he has four legitimately great pitches now...FB that he can dial up to 96-97 if necessary, but can spot perfectly at 92-93, a chaneup in the 77-79 range, a curveball that he can throw from mid-70s to 61 mph, and a falling off a cliff slider at 85-88.

Combine that with being a genius...wow.

Hey Koop, what the hell happened to Tim Melville from last year's draft? I can't find him on any rosters and can't find any info on him being injured. Any idea?

From what I can tell, he's in extended spring training (I think that's what they call it) and will open in Rookie-ball later in the year. Nothing to worry about.

Trey Hillman = super retard

Man, Mike Jacobs and Coco Crisp have been awesome so far.

Mike Jacobs will give you 25-35 Homeruns. But he will also end up around .250 and he will strike out a lot when you desperately need some contact.

Enjoy.

Enjoy.

FYP

LOL Farnsworth, Jacobs, and Callaspo (defensively speaking of course) doing what they do to lose that game yesterday. I have no complaints with Jacobs and Callaspo really, I mean they are both hitting well enough, but I laughed out loud when they looked like little leaguers booting the ball around and such. Callaspo should have thrown that runner out by 10 feet.

Oh well, if they win 3 out of every 4 series all year, they will make the playoffs. The thing I like about the team is that it seems they are not even playing all that well, and yet they are 7-5. The pitching cannot sustain pace the they are on so I hope the bats come around.

Farnsworth sucks.

He'll be better than Ross Gload gave us.....especially if Hillman ever gets non-retarded and uses him at DH the majority of the time.

Yesterday's loss is 97% Hillman. You gotta be some kind of superidiot to keep going to Farnsworth in those spots when you have a bullpen/closer like ours. Juan Cruz and Joakim Soria are potentially the top back end tandem in the game...yet Kyle Farnsworth has been put into three crucial spots already for no reason and it has resulted in three losses.

The scary part....Hillman won't hesitate to do it again. Farnsworth ending up with 15 losses this year won't surprise me one bit.
KowboyKoop
Soria out for 3-5 days with "shoulder stiffness."

If it's any worse than that.....that's a very big hit to any chance of contention.
KowboyKoop
Zack Greinke. 43 innings without an earned run (one unearned run tonight). Back to back complete games.

He owns baseball right now.

You best win the first tonight, because Meche and Greinke are fucking dealing. You'll be lucky to score 3 runs total in the middle 2 games.

I'm going to laugh if Bannister kills tonight

Gotta love Blue Jays fans that think they have something to brag about? Didn't we go through this last year??

still 3 games to go
Reelishymn
This is why I don't go off bragging or prophesizing series wins, you can really look stupid if it goes wrong.

Bannister giving up 6 walks, yikes. Barely half of his pitches were strikes.

I think there's a legit shot at us (Jays) getting swept going by pitching match-ups alone.

I don't know about that, our offense looked decent yesterday, but overall it's hard to imagine our offense providing enough to sweep anybody. I expected a split before the series started. We'll see.

Not from me. You're the one talking about how easy of a series this would be. I'm still trying to figure out what all these Blue Jays fans think they have to brag about recently...seem to be a loud bunch.......just keep praying that the BoSox and Yanks move out of your division so you have a shot to make the playoffs in the next 20 years.

yankee's don't have a team to worry about, and Boston well we will see. Listening to Joe Carter's in yesterday's telecast he has a good feeling about this years team. In fact he talked about and compared them to our team of 92 when we started this well and won the WS

I'd say the Royals have a better shot at making the postseason than the Jays, only because of the divisions they play in. Sorry, but the Rays and Red Sox are simply going to outclass the Blue Jays..and probably the Yanks too. The AL Central...everyone is flawed...and significantly so.

Id agree with this too. Baseball Prospectus's PECOTA projected standings have the Royals making the players over 13% with the Jays being just over 11%.

I'm not gonna bet when there's about a 90% chance that both teams don't make the playoffs. You REALLY think that the Jays are better than both the BoSox and Rays?? Come on. I'm not saying the Royals are the better team, btw.

Tonight's game is apparently being played with THE SMALLEST STRIKE ZONE, EVER!!! Both pitchers are getting squeezed, BIG TIME...I mean..pitches right down the middle are consistenly a ball. This is nuts..at least so far.
KowboyKoop
You guys experiencing the easy part yet?

5-0, 0.50 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 44 K/8 BB, 2 CG for the Zack so far. That'll play

I think Mike Sweeney is gay. The Mariners won on a walkoff tonight and he couldn't wait to go kiss Jose Lopez. He was gushing about chemistry and shit. Is this well known in KC? I don't ever remember seeing him talk before.

Sounds about right.

Up one going to the bottom of the 8th, really need to pull this one out. Man the Twins are frustrating, every time the Royals score they seem to match it in the bottom half.
KowboyKoop
No idea how we won that game. Both teams played awful defense. Good win though, good to see Soria is back.....and the offense is getting there. It's better.

Yeah it's definitely been better lately, but they've faced a lot of young, just-breaking-in type of guys lately. I mean they did what they are supposed to do, but I'd sure like them to beat up on an above average proven pitcher one of these days.

Games with more than 6 runs scored:
Vs.
Cle (Pavano) W 9-3
Tex (Harrison) W 12-3
Cle (Laffey) L 7-8
Tor (Purcey) W 7-1
Tor (Tallet) W 11-3
Tor (Burres) W 8-6
Min (Perkins) W 10-7

Against Sabathia, Pettite, Cliff Lee they scored combined 4 runs (1-2). Obviously those games were a while back but my point is they haven't gone against anyone notable lately.

All that being said, Butler looks to be getting his swing back, Crisp has been amazing thus far, and everyone seems to be getting that 2-out RISP clutch hit, which is nice for a change.

True, but our division doesn't exactly how a lot of "great" pitchers. Lee, maybe Liriano and Verlander at times...Danks...that's probably about it. Our offense actually isn't THAT bad........below average, but not terrible.
KowboyKoop
14-11 after a comeback win to take two of three in Minnesota.

This team isn't bad. I worry that our manager is going to keep making awful decisions that hurt us.....but as far as the players are concerned, the pitching is legit solid, elite closer, and the offense is clearly improving........I see no reason why we can't hang around all year, except for what Hillman might do....
TRB05
That win today was really impressive. Getting no-hit into the 7th, then rally to take a 5-4 lead....are you freaking kidding me? This team is so different than every Royals team the last 15 years or so. It's hard for me to keep watching sometimes because I am so ingrained with the notion that once they get down, there is zero chance of them coming back, or if they are up by 1 or 2, they will blow it. Those thoughts are just natural for a beaten-down Royals fan I think, (maybe other teams too? I don't know) but dammit this team is different you can just see i in these games that, they are not going to roll over, and the opposition better not give them a opening because they are going to pounce.
KowboyKoop
Zack Greinke. Tonight.

Given the mediocrity of the division, I'll say yes.....but I'm not that confident about it. 84 wins wouldn't be much of a surprise to me..and that's probably enough to hang around the race all year.

They are a decent team...just a matter of whether decent is going to win the division.
