$22 SNG on Party - 6 man

Preflop: Hero is Button with 7 , 7 .
2 folds, Hero raises to t200, 1 fold, BB calls t140.

Flop: (t430) 5 , A , 5 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets t300, BB raises to t1280 (all in), Hero folds.

Final Pot: t730


Is it standard to fire a continuation bet once I'm checked to. I seem to get c/r a lot in these SNG's.

Is preflop standard as well?

Hand looks fine to me both preflop and postflop. He's overbetting the pot with his push but You have enough chips and time to let this one go as you're drawing to two outs if he has you beat.

I don't think you need to bet such a large amount for your continuation bet when the board has a pair on it. 1/3 to 1/2 the pot will serve the same. Also, the ace is a scare card, so if he doesn't have an ace or a 5, they will fold to the smaller bet. You risk much less for the same result, and when they come over the top of you like this you have that many more chips left to fight with in the next hand.

think of it this way:
Would you fire 300 into the pot if you had AJ?

I raise it to 180 pre and bet 200-225 ("please call, I have an Ace") into the pot on the flop. And fold to a push, of course.

Well, ideally, I try to make my continuation bets when I hit and when I miss the same.

Since reading this however, I've made both smaller, unless the board is draw heavy, and I'm in need of protecting my hand.

The smaller cb is viable because of the paired board. In addition to providing scare value, that reduces the number of live hands the other players can be drawing to.

With an unpaired board I think a cb of 1/2 pot + is still in order, whether there are apparent draws or not.

Yeah, I was making my standard cb about 3/4 of the pot, and that was just too big, and was too large a dent when I would get c/r.
