Needed something else besides the Isaac Hayes quit thread.

BTW, the second episode of the new season is on now.

When I was in HS, I thought this was just a gross out show. Now that I'm a little more mature, I realize that it's a clever satire.

Every moment could be it's own political cartoon.

Best satire on television actually.

Family Guy spoof tonight.

The Muhammed thing...figured it would be something recent.

What happens is "Family Guy" is going to show an image of Muhammed in an episode. so the whole town is scared bc of the Dutch cartoons. In an effort to show that they dont approve of the show, everyone in South Park buries their head in sand. Kyle and Eric are riding to LA on their big wheels to stop the show from airing.

It's a two-part episode, so we'll see what happens next week.

That's because when you were in High School it was just a gross out show. The old episodes are nowhere near as good as the newer ones. It has really matured. It used to just be based on the novelty of small kids using bad language, and now it's a very clever and witty show.

Exactly, I try to tell people that when they say South Park is just an immature show that just swears and yadda yadda. While yes, at times they can be immature the political satire in that show is amazing. It's so frickin clever.

my favorite moment is still from the first season when cartman farts out an alien sattelite dish!!
aadams_22
Stan: That's impossible. Cartman doesn't know a rain forest from a Pop-Tart.

Cartman: Yeah I do...Pop-Tarts are frosted.

damn, forgot it was on...I'll have to wait till later to catch it...this sucks since I have to be up at 5:45 AM Central.
Petoria
I love South Park, it addresses issues better than any other media in the world.
CobaltBlue
OMG! They censored Mohammed! You bastards!
Jadaki
Best part of the episode was Bart Simpson pimp slapping Kyle with the skateboard and saying "cowabunga... mother****a"
CobaltBlue
There's a plausible theory going around that Comedy Central didn't censor the episode...and that the whole censored bit was part of the joke.

I considered that as a possibility.

I've gotta believe that if South Park said it, then the order was at least handed down that they couldnt show Muhammed. Do you really think Matt and Trey would just out and out lie about it? I dont.

I'm sure it had been planned previously, though.
CobaltBlue
The point was made that they've already shown him before on South Park in the episode Super Best Friends.

Really? I didnt know that. I'm sort of a convert to South Park recently. So yeah, I'm much more inclined to believe the rumor now.

Matt and Trey are such assholes, but in a good way.
CobaltBlue
Recent CNN article reported them (M&T) as saying that Comedy Central told them a few weeks ago that they couldn't show the image. Then again, I'm still not sure if I believe it. I guess I'd prefer that it be a publicity stunt as opposed to actual censorship.
MDXS
I figured it was just part of the joke, but I've come around. This article has some useful information.

Still could be a publicity stunt, but it doesn't seem like it.
kers2
I just saw the 2nd episode for the first time, and it seemed me that "Comedy Central will not show Mohammed" was a joke by Matt and Trey aimed at CC. The censorship and explanation was very long and drawn out... to make the point/joke.

Awesome episode still. And anyone who thinks this was an episode about South Park vs. Family Guy, and bashing Family Guy has missed the point completely. Like these people (funny read):

http://darkhat.blogspot.com/2006/04/south-...family-guy.html
BuffDan
I also like the fact that once again they show they can make fun of themselves... ie stating that nobody wants to watch Terrance and Phillip since it has gotten "too preachy."
aadams_22
on now

That was the worst episode I've ever seen. Bad job Matt and Trey, very weak.

I actually think that was the point.

My initial reaction along with everyone else watching was "Wtf? This is terrible." However, by the end, it became clear that the entire episode was a joke about not coming up with ideas when you're high. Viewed under that lense, it's kind of amusing.

QFT, but that's the way South Park is...every episode is either a hit or a miss. There is no medium.

Eh, I thought that episode kind of sucked. The whole Al Gore stuff got old really quickly. And I didn't really get whatever "message" or whatever they were trying to get across. It was stupid and arbitrary. Not one of their best.

myea this episode wasn't really up to scratch.

It was better than last week's.

The whole trapped in a cave parodied the Sago mine disaster vaguely. If you recall, the church that they were remembering kid 1, kid 2, kid 3, and kid 4, was exactly the same as the church at Sago mine.

I found it funny, making fun of Al Gore never gets old.

lol "my parent wont let me bring homeless people home anymore" funniest line by butters ive ever heard
CobaltBlue
Definitely funnier than the last two weeks. (Though I didn't think the last two weeks were bad.)

Doesn't it seem like Trey and Matt go through cycles of doing one really weird season and then a normal, good season? Like two seasons ago the episodes were all pretty effed up like this season so far has been. Mr. Garrison's sex change, Kyle turning into a black kid and his Dad turning into a dolphin... Dunno, but it seems like they get bored of doing normal stuff and try to push the envelope and then they get bored of pushing the envelope and go back to safer stuff...
