I downloaded it, and cant even seem to find a search button.........I downloaded BitComet 0.63, can anyone help ?

Bitcomet just helps download. You'll need to use mininova.org, or something to find things to download.
Open Bitcomet. Search on mininova (or wherever). Click download on the file you want. Go back to Bitcomet, and click okay button, or what ever it will say. You're now downloading.

After downloading the torrent, how do you find out what codec you need?
