Very solid, 80 is pretty much unbeatable this year. I only have 67, with 83 being possible if Florida wins.
I made all my picks, thought my bracket was fairly unique, and then I start checking "experts" brackets (never do this before picking-it will completely ****ing you up)...and Joe Lunardi of espn had the same exact final 4 as me. Bastarding!
Hobbes, do you use a certain stat that ESPN provides to make your picks, or do you use some other methodology?
My point system might be different than yours. The pool I'm in has 32 points per round, so 1st round games are worth 1 point each and the two final four winners are worth 16 points each.
Also, I was looking at my bracket again and I actually had UNC in the final four. The basketball thread was picking the final four after we knew the sweet 16. D'oh!
I don't listen to or read anything about brackets during those last couple weeks. The only thing I look at when picking the first couple rounds is their schedule. I just go over it to see if they had any good wins or close losses. But if a team has a crazy record, like 29-4, I don't care if they had a weak schedule. You have to be pretty good to put up a record like that. After that, it's just my gut feel, but I never pick a team to win it all that has an unproven coach.
This pool I'm in has 100 to 150 people each year with a $200 entry fee and I've won 3 out of the 6 years I've entered and in the money one other time. Sadly, the payout structure is top 12 with 1st place only getting about 21%.
