I started keeping stats of my heads up play on pokerstars a week ago, and have played 68 fifty dollar heads up matches. Here are my stats...

39 Wins 29 Losses
57.35% Win percentage
Average Game = 14.7 min
$24.52/hour

here are my questions...

Are these good HU stats, or do I need to improve?

Should I expect the win % to go down as i increase my stakes?

Thanks guys, and feel free to post you own HU stats to compare...

BTW...there should be a heads up forum as well

I was just thinging of a head-up forum as well and suggested it to the admin here. Anyone else who wants one, send the admin a PM &/or post it here.

I just played 13 $10 heads-up matches at FCP ( i assume we are talking about N/L Holdem here) and won 9 or 69%

I would expect your win% to go down as you increase your stakes. I wouldn't advise increasing your stakes untill you get a better %, say%75 or above.

I usually play the $5, $10 or $20 heads-up but have played the occassional $50 one too. I noticed much better play there, players are more specific with their betting amounts. At the lower levels that I have played 5 - 20 not much difference.

What is your % at lower limits?

Take care,

you need a big sample size to get accurate stats...

i was averaging over $100/hr playing the $100NL game for two weeks, but that's nothing really...blah.

and you don't know want to know what I did to blow that two weeks away in 30 minutes so..

anyways...those are pretty good stats...keep playing, and get rakeback somewhere.

I was talking about NL, sorry about that.

At the lower stakes, 20$ and lower, my win% was much higher than it is in the 50s, that's how i built up my bankroll in the first place. I kept stats for the low stakes HU games, but then they got earased after I had around 150 games. (I don't have pokertracker, I keep my own stats on excel). My win % in the 5-20$ buy ins was over 60%. Not sure the exact number.

BTW...you need more than 13 games to get a percentage, but that's a really good start. You need more than the amount of games that i posted as well...

As to you saying that i need 75% to go to higher stakes, that's not true at all. If you went all in with AA all the time ever single game against hands like 10 J suited, you only have 78.28%, and that means you need to have this kind of situation when u go all in almost every time. OK...lets say you have 10 10 and your opponent goes all in on the first hand and you see that he has A 9 os. Do you call? You have just under 70% to win...If everytime you go all in you are in that situation, which is a DREAM situation in a heads up match, you will only have a 70% win rate...

An update..I played a few more games and my stats are 42 wins 30 losses...58.3 win %.

And ppl plz email admin so we can get a HU forum...

that's a pretty crazy rate, were you multitabling? cuz i do (2 HU games at once) and that means i make 50$ an hour on average, but I don't count my hourly rate like that, I count it as 1 game at a time, I don't know why, but that's what I do..lol..i gtg, thanks guys for responding

I haven't played 50's in a while, but I am mostly a HU player.

1. Your win rate is low. At $10 and $20 I win about 75-81% of games. You need to clear the magic 55% win rate in order to be a winning player (cover the rake) and you're barely doing it.

2. You should expect your win rate to discrease as you go up in stakes.

I have all my game results saved in Excel and I'd be happy to compile them when I get home from work tonight.

Just friendly advice. When you coin flip for all of your chips you are losing. Even if you are 55% to their 45%, you are breaking even in the long run. Do not coinflip unless you have them outstacked 3 to 1. AK is generally a safe hand to push all in with to a raise because more than half the time they are calling you with Ax, where x < K, and 75/25 is profitable.

Don't think winning 50%, think winning 80% and play accordingly.

Overbet your monsters. Especially at the $50 level people pride themselves on making "good calls." Bet your draws aggressively and when you hit... don't change anything and keep on betting. YOu'd be surprised how often you can catch someone calling all-ins with middle pair.

To parrot what dude said, $5-$20 at least on FCP play virtually the same.

75-81% of the time? If you kept stats you could provide me with an actual number. Do you only go all in with AA? Look at my previous post.

on pokerstars, it's 52.5% of the time to break even, right now my stat is 58.3%. If you go all in with AK you do not have a 75-81% advantage unless you are dominating...actually even if you're dominating you are about 70% to win...So if you have AK and you see you opponent has AQ, its the first hand, you'd fold? because if every time you play heads up, you get in that situation which is really unrealistic and frankly impossible, you win % will barely surpass 70%.

I avoid pre-flop all-ins like the plague for the exact reasons you mention. Heads up players aren't trying to get a 80%/20% edge on their opponent, they're trying to be 99/1 or 100/0.

I play a lot of small ball poker. I have very specific rules of how/when I bet and in which position.

On FTP you start out with 1500 each. I generally dominate people and get to 1800-2000 in the first blind structure and continue to chip away. I don't have to make any tough decisions (like all of my chip stack with AJos pre flop) until I am leading by 3 to 1, then I can take the hit and still be ahead (and I start raising a lot)

Like I said, I will certainly go all in with AK for the aforementioned reason. It's about 70% to win and 5% to push, 25% to lose. 75% is good stuff.

I make most of my money on big hands since I bet my draws A LOT. I play so aggressively with position that people don't raise me and I often get free cards. I make my hand and they can't get away from top pair/two pair because I've been beating on them so long.

I also get rid of bottom 2 pair and what not if the action is too hot... why?
I'm usually ahead in chips... why risk it without being in control of the hand. If I'm not the one betting all-in then I want to damn sure I have a strong hand. Of course these requirements loosen as the blinds go up.

You are also forgetting that I win a lot where my opponent has 0% chance of winning. That's why my rate can get that high.

P.S. BTW: You are right about break-even, it's 52.5%.

53 games played in the last week ($5, $10, and $20 range only):

34 wins 19 losses = 64.15%

Lower than I was expecting, but still pretty good.
