He'll be smelling a Cy Young the next time he goes to Minnesota and walks by Johann Santana's locker......

Tim Wakefield is a fairly good pitcher. Pretty underrated. I'll give him that. I'd take him on my team...

FYP but pretty funny Koop.
I still don't understand Wakefield, seems like he's been doing it with smoke and mirrors for 15 years now. been doing it too long to have gotten lucky though, i just don't get it.

damn knuckleballers...

Hopefully he can pitch until he needs his hip replaced like Charlie Hough.
timwakefield
He signed a weird contract with Boston last year. Basically they mutually decided that he will stay with the Sox until he retires....and will make however much every year until he does.

Like Rickey Henderson said when he was asked if he had tenure with the Oakland A's...

"Tenure? Rickey got 15 years....

Matt Damon. It just seems so appropriate.

Yeah, it's a great contract. We get a few years of a quality pitcher that everyone likes with little change of declining due to his age for short money.

Yeah, and you know Phil Niekro pitched until he was 49. Charlie Hough until he was 46.

Let's see....he's 39 now, has 144 wins...let's get him to 300, huh? 16 wins a year until he's Niekro's age...why not?

Hahaha, yeah I think Wake would need to pitch until he's 55 to get 300....and by then he'd have 250 losses.

He is one of just a few pitchers in history to strike out four batters in one inning. This is possible because a passed ball on a swinging strike counts as a strikeout, but the batter is allowed to run to first base in the event that the catcher cannot come up with the ball.

I've did that in college in 2001. My curveball was pretty wicked that day.

Just another former pirate making it big somewhere else.

Probably, but that's fine with me. And hey, Nolan Ryan had almost 300 losses and no one ever remembers those.

Yeah I saw Wakefield pitch in the Bronx last April.......the game the Sox won in the 9th with like 4 runs off Mariano. Good day.

Old fart sitting behind me kept saying "A bloop and a blast" ALLLLL game, and also "just throw it down the middle, these guys can't hit," every time the a Sox hitter took a ball.

Actually went to 2 games straight that weekend...game 2 and 3 of the season, right after our win. ****ing awesome...I was hoarse as a horse by the the end of the second one.

Also went to a game at Fenway....Renteria hit a walk-off single.

Okay I'm done now. Man I gotta get some tickets.

good numbers but he's pitching against players that will be bagging groceries in less than two weeks...wait until the end of May before the smelly Cy Youngs

Shhhh....spring is the time of unfounded gross optimism. Let us have our fun.

I predict he'll end up with more Cys than Clemens.

Now I have more Cy Youngs than Clemens laugh.gif I got 8

Heh...judging from posts elsewhere on the board, blind devotion isn't your thing.

Back to business....I say 25 wins this season and a sub-2 ERA.

Wake starts tonight.

I'm betting that his Cy Young season starts tonight with a no-hitter. Only baserunner reaches on an error by Wakefield.
KowboyKoop
4 IP, 7 H, 4 BB, 3 K 5 ER.

That doesn't capture how ugly it was.

Second inning went much better...1-2-3.

Lol..yeah. Doesn't it usually take knuckleballers a little while into the season to really get going, or something like that?? I don't know...but regardless...Wakefield will be fine for them.
