Yes, the Canadian Men's team sucked this year. Doesn't take away our double gold in Salt Lake, nor does it diminish the gold the women's team won this Olympic, in which they crushed the opposition something along the lines of 50-4 in goal differential. We still rock at hockey and the Canadian team will always be better than the American team, so you can kiss my igloo.

The team we had was basically the same team that won the World Cup last year. We had eight returning players from the last Olympic Games. Things just didn't go their way this time.

It's not like Canada was getting blown out, the games were close and Canada was getting dominated. They hit some of the hottest goaltenders I've ever seen when they played the Swiss and the Fins.

Sure, the team lacked some chemistry and they looked like the slowest team of the competition. I'm sure the management is probably second guessing themselves by leaving some of the young Canadian superstars off the roster this time around.

But don't forget guys, we didn't medal in Nagano either and it drove the country crazy for four years. We didn't have the heart this year for whatever reason. I can guarantee you that you will see a totally different team in Vancouver in 2010 - it's going to be crazy and that team will not settle for anything less than gold on home turf.

Good point about the goalies, especially the Swiss guy. When you make almost 50 stops against a world class team, you are playing at the peak of your game. Best team this year, all around, have been the Finns. Amazing goaltending, speedy with muscle...oh, and goal scoring ability.

It's a young man's sport now, our team was built on veterens and leadership and we couldn't gel as a team. Everyone wanted to be the hero as that's what they each do with their respected NHL Clubs.

With the bigger ice surface you need legs and a team of old folks just don't got it.

Hockey Canada really has to look at all of their options for the next one. Canada has the largest database of talent to chose from, they just need better smarts upstairs.

I love the bigger ice surface in international hockey...or maybe it's just Olympic hockey that I find so highly entertaining. I think I'm going to root for Sweden now because of Matty Norstrom...

In the game against Russia, we looked totally outclassed. We were slower, and to be honest, we couldn't even handle the puck as well as they could. It seemed like a lot of the time passes would deflect off our players sticks or we would lose control when stick handling, and to me those things are the results of a lack of focus. The Russians generated more chances when they were short handed then we did on our powerplays. Frankly, I agree with everyone who is saying that the younger guys should have been on the team, and I thought that when the team was originally put together. Spezza, Stall and Crosby are the types of players who really would benefit from the bigger ice, as they could use their speed and creative ability even more. Hopefully our results will be much better next olympics.

Seriously, the men's hockey was going to be tight this year. I'm not surprised to see that we're not medalling (well maybe a little bit), but I am surprised at how badly the Canadian team played this year.

As for being prowd to be a Canadian, this is a record year for Canada at the winter games. We're only a medal or two back from nations with 10 times our population, and brazillions of dollars sunk into sports programs. **** Bertuzzi. Klassen and Scott are Canadian heros.

1. basketball sucks. the US basketball team was head and shoulders above everyone and lost, whereas Canada's hockey team is about even with several, and got embarassed. don't know which is worse, but meh.

mostly, the US will likely lose the WBC coming up in March, which is similar to Olympics with Pros, except the US has a double-advantage, including home-team advantage.
let us know how you feel after that loss.
