From Saturday's Protege tourney. Only 25 players entered, 4 move on (gotta love those odds).

I know 3 of the players at my table fairly well (their playstyle, not them personally). The rest are strangers to me, at least based on their names they are. Only one of those three are in this hand, and they don't really come into play.

I've only played one hand in the first two levels, so everyone can see that I am squeaky-tight. This is normal for me, but is also due to getting absolute crap hands, expecially in postion or when a blind. I have 1550 chips.

First hand at 50/100 (if memory serves). Table is 9-handed. I am in SB with :clubsk: :clubs10: . MP 1 limps (1650 chips), CO limps (1700 chips), I decide to complete, BB checks (1400 chips).

MP 1 so far has been (seemingly) loose-aggressive, playing way more pots than anyone else, and likes to re-raise on the flop. CO is tight-aggresssive. BB is tight-passive.

400 in the pot. Flop comes :diamondsj: :diamonds9: :clubs8: . I check, BB checks, MP1 checks, CO checks. If MP1 or CO had bet, I was going to raise with my open-ended straight draw and backdoor flush draw, to hopefully get it heads-up. Since they checked, I decided to take the free card.

Turn is :clubs7: . I bet 150 with my straight and backdoor flush draw, making anyone on a flush draw pay. BB calls, MP1 raises to 500, CO folds. As I mentioned earlier, MP 1 has come over the top of people numerous times so far (I can recollect three before this one). If I just call, I will be left with about 950 chips. I have made up my mind that if a third diamond comes on the river, I am going to call any bet (even if it is for all my chips), and that if the board pairs, I am also going to call any bet. Since I am willing to put all my money on the line anyhow no matter what comes, I decide to push right here, making anyone who is on a draw make a mistake (regardless of how it turns out), and hopefully get called by a lesser hand (trips, two pair, etc.). Based on how the hand has played out, I definately do not think I am wrong in making this play at this time.

Please let me know your thoughts on how the hand has played out so far, and what you would do to that re-raise on the turn. 8)

Can you clear up some stuff in your post? You have yourself as acting last on every street, yet in the first part you have yourself as being the SB. Positions seem really really weird here, like FCP has a messed up order or something.

Oops, I was SB, so I was acting first after the flop and turn. I think its fixed now (its like 9:00am, still onyl one coffee in me, trying to go by memory after the SB yesterday etc.)... 8)

Alright-worst case, you are behind and drawing to 12 outs. Best case-you are ridiculously far ahead and have him drawing to 4 outs. Second best case-you are chopping the pot and freerolling your 12 outs.

Honestly, I would be shocked here if you do not run into another 10. The question is whether or not they have the queen. I would say that if you can put them on Q10 more than half the time (HA!) fold, if not, jam away hope they make the donk call with 10-9 or J8.

Does it not seem fairly far-fetched for them to have a Queen-ten the way the hand has played out? :?

Unfortunately, no. You have to assume that if someone out there had a jack, they would have bet the flop. There are too many cards here in the playable range for the flop to not be bet, so you have to sort of proceed cautiously.

Trust me, if I was in your shoes, I would probably be firing the same way that you are. It would be very hard for me (at the time) to think about the idea that someone with Q10 would give the diamond flush draw a free card, but it is quite possible.

Who is it that has been saying don't go broke in unraised pots? Smart man, wherever he is. :-)

When deciding what to do, I was able to determine that Queen Ten was a hand that could beat me here, but I figured there was about a 2% chance that I was up against one, so it wasn't a factor IMO. Queen Ten would have had to make a mistake pre-flop by limping in the first place (unless it was in BB), and then would have made a mistake by not betting on the flop (unless by some fluke it was the Queen Ten of diamonds). What are the odds of ANY queen ten being out there, let alone the Queen Ten of diamonds?

Doesn't seem like an issue to me. 8)

I agree with the way you played it. You've got the second nuts plus a redraw even if you're up against the nuts. There's still enough draws out there that you want to price them out though. I have no problems with the all in move.

I do think that in your analysis you shouldn't rule out QT because of the way the hand has played out so far. Lots of people are willing to risk giving the flush a free card in the hope that other hands improve enough to pay off their straight.

You're just showin off with this one! You played perfect and now you're showin everyone else! I would have played the hand exactly the same way, including the intent to check raise the flop (depending on the bet of course).

If you were questioning your play here, that's your only mistake. Stick to your guns you played the hand correct.

The only argument could be to call and hope to intice the guy that you had sandwiched into the pot, but I dont think that's wise because of the price they'd be getting on the draws, although if there's anyone you'd have to worry about having QT diamonds, it's probably this guy.

I honestly wish I was showing off on this hand, but alas, I came across the one FCP'er who would slowplay his flopped straight despite the two diamonds on the board. I must give you guys way too much credit, as I did not think anyone who was in that tourney (top 100 posters only - must be someone from general...lol) would make such a loose pre-flop limp and then check the flop.

I thought that one hurt, until last nights tourney. Down to 10 of us, blinds at 100/200. I have clawed, scratched, and stolen my way back (after losing half my chip stack with Ace Queen suited to a short-stacks Ace King offsuit) to about 2200 chips. EP (with about 3200 chips) raises to 500, I have Ace King of diamonds, I push, folded to EP, who hums, haws, types in that he figures he is a 2-1 underdog, but will make the call anyway, he shows Ace Jack of spades.

Flop is King h Queen d, 8 h
Turn is 10 diamonds
River is blank (something like a 3 of spades).

And I'm out  Unbelievable. The whole table knows I'm tighty-whighty, and wouldn't be pushing without a monster from MP. This guy shows a small shred of sanity when he types in he is probably a 2-1 underdog, but then CALLS??? :x

Oh well, who needed the hassle of dealing with DN... laugh.gif

I mean come on, he's potted there! He's like an 80-1 overdog with reverse implied pot odds.
