$100k guaranteed on AP
456 started, 350 left, 63 cash
avg is 3200, i have 4k, blinds are 40-80
I have 8h8d and limp UTG
mp, lp, button (5k), sb limp, bb checks (pot 400)
flop is 743 with 2 clubs
blinds check, i bet 240, button calls, rest fold (pot 880)
turn 10c
check, check
river 8s
I bet 300, he raises 700 more, i fold
I think check calling on the river is the correct play, he cold have had a flush, straight or 10-10 obviously but i think i also set myself up to be bluffed

I dont understand the bet if you were intending to fold to any raise.
if you thought those were all viable holdings then you shouldnt have bet.
however I think I like the fold because he probably wouldnt have raised such a callable amount if he hadnt had a monster.

I would have to call that raise on the river - he could see your weak bet on the river as a stab at buying the pot. You checked the turn so he might sense weakness.
You have a set and he could easily be raising with a lower set or even two pair.

I agree with OP that check calling is the right river play. I expect to see Ax of clubs turned over, but there are too many hands I beat to fold. I wouldnt bet for value here.
