got a nice article up on my blog on Limit SNG's

50% ITM in limit and 40% ITM in $100 NL?

Pretty unrealistic, bordering on impossible consistently.

The basic playing advice is ok, though I dont think it differs from most recommendations Ive seen. Also the idea of playing "18s" all in short stacked is a catchy rule of thumb, but there is a huge difference between A7 and K8, and a huge difference between K8 and T8, so i think its a bit too simple.

Your obviously a wise, thinking player. Why would you read all that, and the best you could come up with is that its impossible?

I don't think its impossible, I actually try not to look at things in that light. Why limit yourself? Because you haven't done it, or because someone else hasn't done it?

The rule of 18's is to simplified.

I wouldn't limit myself by saying something like that is impossible.

I didnt, i said BORDERING on impossible.

Also Im having trouble with the concept of ITM being higher in limit than NL. That implies that there is more skill in Limit (contrary to consensus opinion) or there is something in the nature of a short tourney that makes Limit bubble play inherently more advantageous for a skilled Limit SnG player than for a similarly skilled NL bubble player. I'll have to think about that more and look at stacks relative to the blinds on the bubble, which would be the primary contributor to that kind of anomaly.

Im playing right now so I can't look more than I have. I can't find where the article says anything about NL being 40% and limit being 50%.
bcook823
now i've read it, it doesn't say that

Wow, you mean you should play tight early in SnGs, and then play loose when the blinds go up? I never thought of that! You just opened up a whole new world for me! Surely, armed with this new information, I'll be making hundreds of thousands of dollars in no time!

"Being in the money 50% of the time is something you can achieve. Attaining this statistic is not easy (though no doubt I will hear to the contrary from many of you). If you can achieve 50% in the money, in the higher end OTLHT, you will easily achieve a six-figure income. You can do the math on this one yourself. An even lower percentage will still allow you to earn six figures a year."

"This is why I recommend the all-in betting strategy in No Limit tourneys. All in betting, selectively.
Remember one thing, the higher money level you play, the more aggressive the players become. Achieving a 40% in the money percentage in $100 tourneys will allow you to earn at least $50,000 a year."

If you were back to talking about Limit for the 40%/$50,000 it should have been separated from the NL discussion or most readers would make the same "mistake" I made.

My bad on the overall achievablity of 50% though. I was thinking in terms of ROI (which is really whats important for estimating earning potential..50% ITM with all 3rd places isnt the road to riches), not ITM percentages, where 50% is a minimum target. Average play gets you to 33 1/3%, after all.

In STTs bubble and shortstack play is what its all about. If you had something to contribute beyond (or even translating into English) Eastbay's 2+2 discussions and SnG PowerTools, that would be a worthwhile article.

I hear what your saying about ROI, and most players do think of their success in terms of ROI. While being in the money 50% is not the road to riches, it may be an improvement for some. 60% of the money in a normal SNG is spoken for when you get down to 3. So the biggest difference is between 3rd and 4th.
