I play online because:

A) the closest b & m card room is an hour away.

cool.gif I can multi-table and make good money

C) I can play tournaments for cheap

D) I enjoy poker and can get my fix every day if I want to
the_jop
no casino within 2 states driving distance.

Because I can't use my hacking software when I play live.

Lots of hands in a short period of time => Make lots of money in a short period of time....or in my case lose a lot of money in a short period of time! sad.gif

OP, not trying to be a jerk, but there is a similar thread asking the same question.

Online vs Live

Pros:

1. Multi-tabling
2. Wide variety of games and limits
3. Full tables 24 hours a day
4. Cost to play is cheaper in most cases. (1/2 NL at my nearest casino charges $6 every half hour. The max buy-in is $100, with 3 blinds of 1-1-2 and a $4 bring-in bet. Online the 1/2 NL tables are generally a $200 max buy-in with only 2 blinds of 1-2 and a bring-in bet of $2.)
5. Tons of tournaments running all hours and for various buy-in amounts
6. Short-handed and heads up cash games and tournies
7. Take notes on players
8. Use tracking software, which helps idenifying players and help leaks in your own game
9. Ability to get things done around the house, which could be a con too
10. No transportation time to get to the casino and waiting for the game you want is generally never as long as some waiting lists at casinos
11. Ability to play more hands per hour even when playing only 1 table

Cons:

1. Unable to completely read your opponents
2. Lack of the full social interaction live play provides
3. Less exciting for some people without the live interaction
4. Has been known to cause people to act like complete assholes and say things in the chat that they would never say to someone live

Honestly, the number one reason I play online is so I can smoke a doobie and watch TV while I play.

Cinci, do you ever go to Belterra or Grand Vic? I'm from northern Ky, and go there once in a while.

Nearest casino over 2 hours away and I have no transportation to get there
Rude Dog
I play online seven days a week.

I can smoke while I play.

But, one bad habit I noticed I've picked up...at home I have no concern at all for physical tells. I can roll my eyes, beg out loud for hits, and openly talk shit to the opponents. I never type anything in the chat box except for fun, but, times like last night when I lost with three full houses and a queen high flush with the king on board, I let it out pretty good.

This is something I have to give my self a good talking to about on the way to the clubs.

+1, I saw that same one :-)
BoBetter
Because I don't have to interact with annoying, loud, drunk, and or smelly people......, because I don't have the bankroll to play the bigger games, that fit my normal level online, when people suck out on me, and they smell, I can't hold in my anger.....

i play online to lose all the money i make in live games.

online is begining to suck for me.

has anyone quit online all after they started? is it tough to keep up your skills without playing as many hands?
omahahilo
I quit and start over and over and over ... but when I take bad beats online I limit myself to 20.00 losses so its hard to stay upset forever.
