FCP 10 handed

RISE is BB with A icon_suit_diamond.gif Q icon_suit_diamond.gif

PF: 2 posters in MP
1 fold, 2 calls, 1 fold, posters check, 2 calls, SB raises, RISE 3-bets....

one step at a time, tell me why I 3-bet here, there's 3 or 4 good reasons.

You reraise for equity.

You might isolate the SB and pick up some dead money (unlikely).

You help define the SB's hand by seeing if he call or caps.

first reason is a good one I didnt think of. I'm equity challenged, I don't ever see it.
Second reason is the main reason I 3-bet. Lots of dead money from posters and limpers and I wanted it.
I do somewhat help define his hand. The only hands I'm really worried about are AA, KK, QQ and AK. He probably caps AA and KK, he might cap QQ depending on the player. He doesn't cap AK more than likely. I can eliminate 2 of these hands by seeing what he does, and get the rest from the flop. Also, if he has AQ then I can put pressure on him and make him fold a lot of flops or turns instead of splitting.

good reasons, sluggo. But there's more...
Sluggo
Protect your hand. Which is really a misnomer. Essentially, provide your opponents with bad hands an opportunity to err by calling.
RISEorFall
Eh, my hand naturall protects itself PF. I may force some better hands to fold with pressure, though. Say JJ or TT when a K hits on the flop.
Sluggo
So what's the answer you're seeking?
RISEorFall
I'm just waiting for more people to see and give me some ideas, it's a big part of how I learned a lot of what I learned in these forums.

Not that I'm super uber awesome big badass poker player (although I am laugh.gif ), I learn from doing this too.
screech
You raise because only good things happen when you raise.

Big multiway pots are great for your hand. And if you get a lot of folds, there's a load of dead money in the pot to compensate for the few times you end up dominated.

Because how else are we going to keep our PFR% up at the 10 it should be for a good aggressive player if we're not raising AQs.
Actuary
because you stand up when you pee.

I don't have PT and I've never seen what my stats would be on it (not that I would probably understand them if I did) but that might be cool if someone looked me up.

The biggest reasons were the dead money and the fact that with this hand it's very likely I'll want to see a turn and river and a 3-bet now may buy me a cheaper turn and/or river card. and because i stand up when i pee. sometimes.

I wanted more discussion from newer guys and people who don't post much, not actuary and screech. they already know why raising here is good. threads like these helped my game out a lot.
Actuary
new guys don't post in open question threads, it's too intimidating

most don't like to look dumb.

i never minded.

Since you're smart enough to know raising is good here...

you're smart enough to know you're hemorrhaging cash to weekend-warriors-who-still-play-micros like me who have PT stats on you... and it's a necessary step on the road to turning pro and making millions.
