On the list for today:
The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth
Sun Kil Moon - Tiny Cities
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am That's What I Am Not
Zero 7 - When it Falls
Beck - Mutations (by the way, Beck has two Nick Drake covers that you can download off his website, and they are great)
Traveling Wilburys - Volume 1
I also am liking the 40th Anniversary Tribute album to The Beatles Rubber Soul. Every song is recreated or redone, lots of good artists on here. Surfjan Stevens, Low, Ben Harper, Yonder Mountain String Band, Ben Kweller, etc.

Yesterday, on my drive out to the Hard Rock in Tampa, I turned to the classic rock station. They were playing a clock of Tom Petty. I heard the following songs:
Don't Come Around Here No More
The Waiting
Breakdown
You Got Lucky
It was a great blast from the past.
Want to hear a song my son wrote? It is on a flash animation on newgrounds. More specifics and the link are on this thread I created:
http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-foru...pic.php?t=48915
Since you all are music fans, I thought maybe you would want to hear it.
I need to buy some more CDs. I tend to play the same things over and over again. Maybe I will make a trip today. My last purchase was Billy Idol's greatest hits. It's good but I realized I enjoyed him much more live. Have you ever seen the video to Mony Mony? Well, I was there! I was standing right infront of Steve Stevens. My ribs were smashed against the boards. I had bruises for days but it was worth it.
Oh... I believe I heard on the radio this week that the Samshing Pumpkins were getting back together!

Petty is the man....you ever see him in concert? I've seen him twice and he's been great both times....I also heard the Pumpkins were reuniting. I am not a huge fan of theirs, but I have also heard a rumor that they might head to Bonnaroo, so if they are, I will catch them there.

As a Weezer fan since the Blue Album, I have to say that I love Make Believe. It's Weezer's best album since Pinkerton, and at the moment I even prefer it to Pinkerton.

I saw Petty only once. It was the night after I saw Billy Idol.
Oringally, I wanted to see Petty but th tickets were sold out. So we bought Billy Idol tickets. Then my ex won Petty tickets on the radio. This was back in 87. The sound was great but our tickets were horrible. I couln't even see Tom Petty because there was a pole in the way.

That stinks....I have been fortunate enough to see him twice, both times with great opening bands (Jackson Browne & The Black Crowes). He is worth seeing even now if he comes anywhere close to you while on tour.

If you've ever seen Donnie Darko, there is an Echo & The Bunnymen song at the very beginning of the movie. I'm sure you'd like them if you are a Joy Division fan.

its actually near the end of the director's cut, if you see that. the director's cut opens with INXS- Never Tear Us Apart and echo and the bunnymen is as theyre walking down the stairs at the party. i also recommend the d-cut just strictly talking about the movie. it clarifies a lot.

Ah, never seen the Director's Cut...the version I've seen plays Echo & The Bunnymen while Donnie rides his bike around or whatever during the opening credits....

I wonder if people who like electronica music dig the minimalist movement in classical music that took place in the 20th century.
I'm not really up on exactly what all of the electronica genres mean specifically....but I would assume fans of the trance music would probably like minimalism the best.
Check out John Adams, Philip Glass, and especially Steve Reich. Steve Reich's piece called "Six Marimbas" is probably one of the most palatable minimalist pieces out there. Also check out John Adams' "Short Ride in a Fast Machine"
I'd like to know what your opinion on that stuff is.

i couldnt find much stuff to download from them so i had to settle for listening to 30 second samples of their music in itunes. the Steve Reich stuff is cool. i can definently see the similarities to electronica. it has the "looping" phrases with slight variations as the basis of the piece, like a lot of techno/electronica songs. the thing i like about this type of music is you can kind of use it to just give your ears something to do while you do something else. i could see myself listening to this while doing work or playing poker.
i liked "Six Marimbas" and i also listened to a few songs from his Music for 18 Musicians album. that was also cool, same type of stuff. im probably going to listen to some more of Reich's stuff and maybe buy that 18 Musicians album.
a lot of what i just said goes for Philip Glass as well, except his music reminded me more of the techno/dance side of electronica. im more into the ambient kind of stuff, not really sure what its called. add some drums and bass to his stuff and youd have electronica. haha actually i just listened to a little of a Philip Glass remix album where they did just that, so there ya go.
"Short Ride in a Fast Machine" seemed more like regular classical music to me
