winrar

I'm using the 'trial' version, but it says to please purchase the winrar license. It says to either delete the program or buy a license after 40 days. It's quite annoying. Seriously. Ok. I'm not serious. I almost bought it. By 'almost bought it' I mean one time I almost clicked on the purchase button instead of the close button once. I'm not sure if that download will be the trial version but it's worth a shot.

ah. I will give it a shot. I'll probably get annoyed with the license popup thing after a month and just pay the 30 dollars. or something else.

edit: works smashingly so far. I'll tell you on february 5th how annoying it is.

Wang, I'm really, really loving Hissing Fauna, right now.

Good news. I think the fact that Pitchfork had it so high on the year-end list even though it came out like 11 months ago REALLY speaks to the album's quality. I hope it doesn't get forgotten.

I'm really liking broke social scene, and I think anthems for a 17 year old girl could be the bestest song ever.
also, I've got mk's and wangs 80's mixes, but I don't have winzip, and I don't particularly want to pay $30 for a program I'll use about 20 times throughout my life. is there any way around this?

1) Broken Social Scene is pretty awesome. That album -- You Forgot it in People -- has almost no weak spots. Just great, accessible pop songs. "I'm Still Your Fag" and "Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl" might be the two faggiest songs, ever, but they are both awesome.

2) I did not make an 80s mix. Perhaps you are thinking of LLY? I just made a 20-song "Best of 2007" list that I am considering adjusting. (I think I need to add "Paper Planes" by MIA and "Woody Woodpecker" by Dan Deacon)

1) I know, right! they really are super, SUPER gay. and thats why I love them. jesus, if anybody ever heard me singing along to anthems while driving down the road, jesus christ. I don't even want to think about it.

2) yeah I realized that later after I unzipped it, but it was late and I was far too lazy to come in here to correct myself. I meant the best of 2007. I need to burn that now actually, I'm kinda excited about it.

edit: aahhhh, what the hell. wang, are you using some sort of huge cd or something to burn yours? the last 6 songs won't fit for me (700mb cds, like NORMAL people use. GOSH.) how should I arrange this? which middle song should be the last? I'm so confused.

Any of you guys big MIA fans? I didn't like Arular all that much (except for a few tracks that were oddly catchy), and have always been put off by her weird persona, but my little brother told me that Kala was his 3rd favorite album of the year, so I started listening to it. (I think I downloaded it when it came out, and listened to it once, planning on not liking it at all.)

I hate to say this, but it's really, really good. "Paper Planes" is just a great song ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q4YJ4TyFsU ).

Yeah, Shake, sorry about that. It was a double-disc, since I couldn't really fit 2007 onto a single CD. I figured everybody has an iPod anyway, and the CD is almost an outdated format for music. But, yeah, double-disc.

yeah, true, I of course have an ipod, and I listen to a lot of my music directly off of my computer, but pretty much my favorite way of "absorbing" (as you music snob fags like to call it) new music is by listening to it on a cd in my vehicle. I like driving and listening to music quite a bit.

Yeah, even though I almost all of my music-listening on my iPod, I still spend a lot of time listening to CDs in my car, and when I get a new album, I usually burn it onto a CD and then listen to it during a long drive.

I think the album format could be dying, though. I mean, it's only a matter of time before more people get their music from iTunes (or the like) than Best Buy or Wal/Mart. Bands are going to start releasing more EPs and stuff, and the full-album will be totally outdated. I don't know exactly what I'm trying to say, but when the medium changes, the art changes, too.

I deleted a substantial editorial on the album thing because I'm pretty sure it made me look like a douche on a level I'm yet to reach.

...So I'll skip to the immediate, technical problem: it's like $50-100 to have your car fitted with the direct from-iPod or even the closed-circuit transmitter input. I swapped cars this month, and the first thing I did was have input installed.

I actually worked out a deal with my little brother where I drive his car while he's at college (because it's a lot more fuel efficient than mine, and less prone to stop working for extended periods of time), and he has an iPod jack in his. I love it. Pop that bitch in, and I've got 600 songs at my disposal.

I can't stop trying to sing the chorus to Paper Planes. It's hard because it involves gunshots and a cash register.

I was thinking the same. I could carry that many songs around on vinyl. *Highfive*.

I probably have many fold that many albums on mine. I haven't listened to most of them, but...they're there, anyway. It's time for the 160GB, my friend. Plus, if you can't fill it, you can at least use it to make people really uncomfortable by watching hardcore fetish porn on public transit.

So for Christmas I got a pair of nice headphones. I'm not sure if they're the best (Bose around ear), but they're a billion times better than anything I've ever had before. Unfortunately, I can hardly listen to most of the stuff on my iPod anymore without getting nauseous. I've got some high-quality Ghostface stuff that sounds really crisp, but everything else is kinda hissy. I think I'm going to have to redownload my entire catalog.

Also, I recently had to go out and buy a new cell phone (my plan was up, so if I renewed I got a phone for cheap), and finally have a phone that has good RingtoneCapability. I found a website that just makes them for you for free, so right now my ringtone for calls is "Bodysnatchers," and for texts it's "Hunting Bears" which I think is pretty hilarious.

Are these the TriPorts ($150), I assume?

I have/had a pair, and the sound is great. Normally I'm not a fan of Bose (those in-ear TriPorts are worse than some $20 in-ear pairs I've used), but these are in my top 10, sound-wise. And they're #1 for comfort. The problem is they fall apart like a Japanese motorcycle. I've had mine replaced twice under warranty, and since then, they've broken in at least seven (I'm not kidding) other ways. I'd've thrown them away, but the sound wasn't affected, so I use them for the dining room desktop. Here are some pictures of ol' Trusty:

Yes, both ear cups broke off, but not just in the obvious place. They broke off in the obvious place, too, but they also broke off in two other interesting places (on both sides. One thing would break on one side, then on the other. Than a month later, something else would fail, and then even itself out again) that you'd never think could break. It's almost like they're magic. The bad kind of magic, but let's see Panisonic build something that defies the laws of nature.

I just learned that one of my childhood heroes, Oscar Peterson, died this month. Drag. Well, not really, since he was old, I didn't even know for sure he wasn't dead two years ago, and there was about zero chance of him putting out anything of merit any time after the age of 70 or so, but still...drag.

In his honor, everyone should listen to Night Train, which is one of my favorite piano records. It's not as mesmerizing as some of his stuff, but it's mostly covers of standards you've heard, and his phrasings are going to be a lot more palatable to the non-jazz listener than his usual quadruple-type stuff:

You should upgrade, when I got Bose headphones over 2 years ago, I went with the regular triports. However I learned how flimsy they were and tried them out. They were nice but I ended up returning them and then upgrading to the QC2s. I've also heard good things about the QC3s but I still think the 2s are better and more comfortable.

As for me, I'm listening to My Bloody Valentine's masterpiece of masterpieces Loveless while looking at Wade Boggs's OBP during the 10 year stretch from 1982-91, and trying to figure out what the hell is going on. He has 3,000 career hits, 1400 career walks, and barely 1,000 career RBI. What a weird career. You'd think he would have accidentally driven in 90 runs in a season once, right? He had a super weird year where he hit 24 HR and slugged .588, but apart from that he never drove in more than 78 runs or slugged .500.

mk made me download that album at some point. when I listened to it, I almost felt bored enough to study baseball statistics.

Like a lot of good music, it rewards multiple listens. It's really dense, so the melody hides for awhile, until you track it down beneath the noise. At first the noise is distracting to some people, until you figure out what's going on, at which point it really enhances it. "Dense" is a word I would use to describe it. Listen to "Only Shallow" a few times, take a break, then listen again. Your brain will start putting it together differently.

I feel very strongly about this. Give it another shot.

Meh, I use a pair now that are much better. I'm not a huge fan of the "comfort" that they profess to deliver, and the sound isn't really great value, compared to the rest of the market. Bose are overpriced and poorly made.

That's the life of a #2 hitter...(sometimes lead-off, too, I think). Also, these were pre-juice days, for the most park and we didn't yet have 2nd basemen hitting 40 HR's in a season (in general). Yes, I know Boggs is 3B

Yeah, it's just one of those things. If anybody tells me to watch The Wire again, I'll stab him. I'm sure I'll like it when I watch it, I'm just going to watch it when I want to fucking watch it. Doesn't matter how many times somebody tells you to listen to an album, you'll get around to it when you get around to it, and there's no point in trying to speed that process up.
